So right from the outset we have a problem between Watson and what are most likely mens rights activists rather than atheists. You know, I don't want CFI to get rid of Hensley. Even though she's a true believer and a bully, I refuse to cross the line of thinking people should lose their livelihood. Probably because I recognize the fact that bullies of her sort (and Benson, Meyers, Laden, etc) are basically weak and fragile people, often I have far more sympathy for them than I may actually display.

The dilemma is, of course, that these sort of weak, fragile people can also do such harm to other people. Calling them out is not to remind them they are weak, ineffectual people, but to mitigate the harm they do.

I also recognize that any sympathy I may have for yappy little dogs like that would in no way be reciprocated. Even though I would tend to moderate the real world consequences for their bullying, they would destroy me, laugh about it, and sleep like babies.

I take the view you gave about Peezus - wouldn't want her at spitting distance of any position of power. I'm afraid right now she has far too much power to influence the conference circuit and the CFI, as evidenced by the anti-vaxxer's and Vacula's cases.
Moreover, she has clearly demonstrated major cognitive and character flaws.

In other news, it seems the Australian government is adopting a Skepchick view on harassment policies!

So the government is proposing a law about Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination, which includes a provision that "unwanted sexual advances" in public places are illegal if a reasonable person having regard to all the circumstances would have anticipated the possibility that the person would be offended, insulted, humiliated or intimidated by the first person's conduct.

Seriously, that's in any public place including ones that charge entry (i.e. including pubs and nightclubs).

I have a pic of the individual I accused of stalking me (we never went to court because the sheriffs office couldnt find him), I wish I could share it will you all. He is terrifying. I was awarded a series of emergency VPOs (which was difficult because I did not know this guy/his name/anything-- not knowing who your stalker is is rare, and the forms/protocols reflect that) by OK judges after I reported how he would show up at my home drunk in the middle of the night, trying to gain entrance to my apartment, followed me to/from work, was sending me insane letters, relating stories of 'dates' we went on to people in our neighborhood (never happened), etc etc etc etc etc. Over this series of events (month after month after month), I lost ~25 pounds, I didnt sleep, and I had to mourn Arnies death (I knew if dude broke in, the first thing he would do is kill Arnie) and prepare to kill another human, and forgive myself for doing so. When things were at their worst, the campus police were escorting me home every night (in an unmarked car, with bulletproof vests and shotguns).

A couple weeks ago, years later at this point, I saw a guy drive by my house in a brand new orange Mustang who looked exactly like the guy I accused of stalking me. There is no way in hell it was him, but dude looked enough like him that my adrenalin went through the roof. I got a migraine last night, but I was afraid to take my new meds because the potential side-effect profile looks just like my panic attacks, so I just took my old dope and dealt with it.

This is the person who is 'stalking' Melody Hensley. By bringing up some stupid ass shit Melody said on Twitter, and will not apologize for (this all could have been resolved immediately if she had said 'Youre right, that was catty and sexist. Im sorry.', alas...).

I got a migraine last night, but I was afraid to take my new meds because the potential side-effect profile looks just like my panic attacks, so I just took my old dope and dealt with it.

I had a girlfriend (fiance') in college who went to a different university. She had a scary stalker who just wouldn't quit, so I drove the 400 miles, searched him out and told him to "knock it off immediately". Drove back home and got a call from GF that he approached her and threatened her an hour after I left. I drove back and tracked him down like a rabid dog. Not going into details, but the result wasn't pretty (but he was warned, so tough). The stalking ended then and there and he didn't call the cops, probably due to outstanding warrants. I wish the cops had handled it though, because he probably just moved on to another woman who didn't have protection. The authorities didn't (and probably still don't) handle these things well back in the 70's, so sometimes street justice was the only justice available.
