I had a little health scare this week myself, had to go for an angiogram on Tuesday and was effectively told that one of the 3 major arteries going into my heart (can you tell i'm not a doctor?) is entirely blocked, and that the other two have been compensating for what is probably a couple of months. Apparently this is pretty uncommon and usually i would have had a coronary. I am fairly fit otherwise and have a decent BMI, but if i continue to smoke my prognosis would be a fatal double coronary in the next year or so.
We have a history of heart disease in my family and my brother (age39) has already had a minor heart attack and i really shouldn't be where i currently am at age 41. So Tuesday morning I had my last cigarette and for lunch a last full fat burger with the works.
Giving shit up sucks arse.
But the bonus is that i have to get 'out of breath' exercise-wise at least twice a week, and sex is a viable way of doing so. :dance:

I had a coronary incident about 18 months ago. Woke up with chest pain, shortness of breath, pain in left arm. Went to ER, had all the tests (troponin, angiogram, stress-echo), but they could find nothing wrong - apparently it may have been a coronary artery spasm. I have several risk factors - male, over 50, overweight, family history, and stressful job (the only one I miss is smoking.)

The cardiologist said, however, that a good, heart-healthy diet includes steak and red wine. I went home and had a nice delmonico, and a bottle of St Emilion Grand Cru Classe.

Been reading snippets of the sex & rape discussion and one aspect that doesn't seem to ever come up (no pun intended) is the prevailing view that when a couple are having sex it generally seems, by the language used anyway, that it the person doing the penetrating is the one doing the 'fucking'.

As I said before, defending a woman's right to wear a veil is like defending a slave's right to wear leg-irons.

You know, I agree with you that having ANY kind of clothes requirements for everyday use is at least somewhat oppressive, and would be oppressive no matter who was required to wear it. Orthodox Jew Curls on men is stupid and oppressive too, if somewhat less so.

But you just repeating stupid shit you've already said doesn't make it true. While I view head coverings as oppressive, saying it's in the same league with a leg iron is just stupid beyond belief. That's no better than when feminists claim that cat-calling is the same thing as rape, just slightly lower on the scale, or that saying "you look nice" is "claiming ownership" of a woman's body.

There are differences of both quality and quantity between a head covering and a leg iron, although they are both oppressive in some sense. There are certainly cultural attitudes and women's own desires to be taken into account. Nobody has ever defended their own leg iron from criticism, or asked for the government to allow them to wear it when they didn't have to, much less held a "Slave's Leg Iron Pride Rally".

But then, I've already determined that you are a dishonest and hysterical sort who likes to uncharitably over-interpret things to make your dubious points, so I don't know why I'm bothering here....just bored, I guess.

For those not following the A+ thread over on the JREF forum, a rather amusing situation has arisen. An APlusser going by the nom de net of "qwints" has braved the unsafe spaces thereon, and tried to pull the "I've noticed you're using problematic language...why is that?" maneuver (twice in one page actually). This, it turned out, was a mistake, resulting as it did in a sort of reverse A+ dogpile where everyone else calmly and thoroughly dissected exactly how many kinds of transparent bullshit that was. Three days later and qwints is still squirming on the hook, reduced to claiming "Oh, I was, uh, just pointing out that word choice, like, matters and stuff. I totally wasn't trying to imply anything. Why would you think that?" (not quite a Nathan Thurm-caliber performance, but pretty close).

Of course, over at APlustopia, the thread would have ground to a screeching (in more than one sense) halt, and the whole lot of 'em would have been banned, except for qwints, who would have gotten an ally cookie and a nice pat on the head or whatever.
