Damn, we got you to donate a buck or two to a potentially homeless person Caine. What's next? We're going to help a few kids with cleft palates? Is there no depths that we won't sink to?5

Well, I’m glad I got a little in before the revision. I can’t help out Avicenna, I don’t have enough to fund replacing my own recently dead laptop.
It’s infuriating that these howling toads have caused so much damage to people.

Setar, always a victim even when brandishing a boxcutter blade. He's in Vancouver. No couch or floorspace to offer Natalie? Or maybe have her over for some nice meals every so often so that at least she's getting some food into her while homeless? No. Helping her very real needs would take time away from all his contrived victimhood (poor dear is oppressed because his hair is a bit long).another lurker wrote:Looks like you just described Setar there, to a T. :clap:Scented Nectar wrote:

And PZ, can't he ask his Vancouver area readers to help her out with places to crash, etc? Hah! Yeah, right!

I noticed a couple days ago, PZ wrote to tell his commentors that his old scienceblogs blog has some creationists hanging around and to go over there and pick on them. I think he's trying to route people back to the blog that used to make him money. Probably more money than at FTB, although I doubt he could ever get his views at scienceblogs back up to its former high counts.

It's self defined. A laptop for blogging is just as important as a roof. Only subjective OPINION tells us otherwise.

I think the most moving strip was The Rotating Chin Men. Do you remember that one?
A description from Wikipedia
That my friend, is poetic.:Rotating Chin Men A gang of flying villains with jetpacks whose intention is to spoil Queen Elizabeth II's coronation by squirting spunk onto her via a pump squeeze mechanism linked to their revolving chins.

Re: Slyme Pit Orgy, Sponsored by Vicky's Bewbs
Okay, I checked the link and the survey and I was wrong. Yes, in the past 12 months, the survey lists 1.1% of the sample (est. 1.26M men in total) as victims of "made to penetrate" with 80% of them commited by women. So I was very wrong. I really apologize.SPACKlick wrote:http://www.genderratic.com/p/836/manufa ... rable-men/Trophy wrote:Then learn to the read the context of the posts you are reply to. And, in grand scheme of things, it's pretty damn unlikely for a man to be raped by a woman (and male minors don't count as "men"). It's almost a non-issue.
And associated links within.
Oh and another go fuck yourself for good measure.
And yes, it's equal to the percentage of women raped in the sample. So I guess I was the fucking moron, huh.

Re: Slyme Pit Orgy, Sponsored by Vicky's Bewbs
They give the data of women vs men but there is no data presented on the overall percentages. They do give examples like this-debaser71 wrote:This is a good post.Altair wrote:PZ is now linking to a skepchick article about the Secular Census (http://www.freezepage.com/1359044439TLMZOQWDIE), where they are very very happy about this:
Here's a link to the full article at the Secular Census site http://www.secularcensus.us/analysis/2013-01-23, where we find another quote (the first percent is women, the second is men)Secular Census wrote:]
Regardless of gender, all respondents who are or have been involved in the secular movement are asked: Have you ever felt unwelcome, discriminated against, or harmed in the secular movement? Women outnumber men 62%/34% in responding “Yes.†It is worth noting that women do not outnumber men when asked the same question about religious organizations with which they’ve been associated. It appears they are less comfortable in secular groups than in the churches they left.
They are assuming that this means that women are being disproportionately harassed and abused by the secular community.Secular Census wrote: Regardless of gender, all uninvolved respondents are asked: What are your reasons for not being involved in the secular movement? Check as many as apply. Women outnumber men in these responses:
70%/30% - Bad experience with group, person, or event
100%/0% - Can't get over my conditioning that religion is good and secularism is bad
67%/33% - Health issues
65%/35% - Lack of childcare
I don't see that as the only possibility. It is A possibility, of course, but there also other possibilities that should be addressed, like maybe "feeling" unwelcome, discriminated against or harmed doesn't equal to these thins happening. Everyone has different thresholds of offense and what might make someone feel unwelcome might not be very important for someone else. Or maybe men are less prone to leaving a movement because of a bad experience.
Using the same data, we could conclude that not being able to "get over my conditioning that religion is good and secularism is bad" is a girl-thing (apply your tongue to your cheek while reading this line).
To be honest I don't know how we could find an explanation to this data, but at least we have some tangible figures to talk about.
Also, not having childcare facilities at the WiS conference seems to go in direct contradiction with the data that indicates that 65% of uninvolved women are not in the secular movement because (at least in part) of the lack of childcare.
But it's pretty simple.
" 70%/30% - Bad experience with group, person, or event"
does not imply a bad experience with a secular group, secular person, or secular event....For me, I don't like people in groups. I much prefer small gatherings.
Yet they describe it as such when they say this, "Have you ever felt unwelcome, discriminated against, or harmed in the secular movement?Women outnumber men 62%/34% in responding “Yes. "
Bolding by me.
They are misrepresenting their data. (For the record I did not click on the links provided so maybe there's something I am missing).
And women are the only respondents to select these answers:
100%/0% - Unwanted advances by other participants
100%/0% - Not sure - I can't put my finger on it
Ok, so that could be one woman, or even half a woman, even if only her big toe was made to feel uncomfortable then the numbers would be the same as if 100 women had replied the same way. From my experience there is only one reason data is presented in this fashion, because the numbers don't support the desired result. If the numbers did support the belief that women are being unfairly harassed they need to give them so we can get an idea of what the scope of the problem is. Why are they even doing a census if they are going to present the results like this? What a waste of time. They won't be more 'transparent' until they reach 10,000 participants.

I don't really even know what to think about the Natalie Reed situation. I guess I can't really blame PeeZus for holding her up as his next martyr because that was the strong implication in her goodbye post. But then she makes these nebulous claims about "many factors" and it's like, whatever.
She's just kind of an idiot. I don't even really mean that in a nasty way, just as a matter of fact. I followed her on Twitter once and had to unfollow her within a few days, because she was flooding my newsfeed with rambly stream-of-consciousness "theorizing". Her posts are so repetitively tedious that I want to think she's like, a postmodern troll. It's just weird that an intermittently-homeless person is so concerned with all this quibbling social justice horseshit.

Okay, so I am about to make the biggest decision of my life and I need some honest advice from someone other than my family. I have been with my boyfriend for over 2 years, and we have been living together for over 6 months. I am 27 and he is 32. Things are going great but the whole idea of marriage scares me because my parents had a horrible marriage. To me, it just feels like I am legally binding myself to someone! Anyway, what is most important to me in LIFE is having children; I have wanted them for as long as I can remember. All of my friends are having kids and starting families. My boyfriend is not one to talk about his feelings, EVER, so other than the fact that we live together and things are going well, I have no idea where our relationship is going. I have tried bringing it up to him, but he is just not easy to talk to about these things, and I am always left feeling no better off about our future than I did before. I am SURE we will get married one day, but when??
I have always wanted to have kids by 28 and I know timeline’s get messed up, but this is too important. What I really want to do is go off the pill and get pregnant. We both have wonderful jobs and a house and are in a stable relationship and I know that he will love his baby, but I make a wonderful salary and could support the child on my own if I ever needed to. I want to do this so bad that I don’t know if I can turn back at this point. Accidents happen on the pill all the time, and who knows, it could end up happening anyway. He is just such a slow mover; I don’t think the kid conversation would even come up until I’m 30! I know 30 is young and TONS of people have kids at 30 and above, but I can’t give up my dream, and then what if we end up not working out anyway? Then I’m back to square one! I have one of those mothers who is just so outside the box and I love it. She knows our situation and can see that everything would be just fine. She thinks I should just go for it, but I also want an outside opinion. What do I do?

The thing is, she has said in her blog several times in the past that she is appalled by the atheist movement in general, and A+ in particular. She has stated that she is not comfortable with the way many on "her side" have conducted themselves. Look at her tweets in my post linked below (in the spoilered part) and she reiterates that dissatisfaction. PZ and others are hold her up as a martyr, yes, but it's very dishonest of them to do so, because they conveniently neglect to mention a major portion of Natalie's opinions in their rush to try to further tar and feather those who do not follow them.Percentage wrote:I don't really even know what to think about the Natalie Reed situation. Oh I did know it was a joke, but at the same time it was "ragging", a little jousting. A challenge not to take offence. You must have known it was the kind of thing 'they' would take as misogyny. By playing along, I felt i got one up on you, but also backed you up in going along with the joke.
Anyway, that is all over with.

In case all the lurkers think this is becoming a haven of kind and caring human beings, I'd like to confirm their original suspicions. I have no intention of donating any money to Natalie Reed and there is no fucking way I would ever invite a stranger to live in my home. I can think of several hundred people off the top of my head who I think would be more in need of any help I could give, never mind some random stranger who seems to be a bit of an arsehole and lives in another country thousands of miles away.
I do admit I am a bit of a cunt, but at least I'm honest.

I know of a woman who loves being pregnant - yet HATES the thought of raising her own kids. So she is off spending 10k on an ATV, drinking, partying, sleeping with random guys while her boyfriend (who isn't even the father of her two kids,) and her mother raise the children.
She is feeling all oppressed now b/c her parents have cut off the money. See, she also has a 30k $ truck. All the 'fun' is worth more to her than her kids. The two year old baby boy is going to grow up with developmental problems b/c he spends the majority of his days ALONE without any attention whatsoever.
I despise people like this, and I hate even more the folks who proclaim 'have as many babies as you like, who gives a fuck about their quality of life'. It's THIS sort of attitude that only encourages women like this to revel in the pregnancy, and then basically abandon their children once they are born.

It could very well be. FtB/Skepchicks are all about silencing the opposition, and they routinely try to get accounts suspended. FTB commenter @Aratina even set up a #BlockSaturday hashtag, where she encourages her twitter buds to pre-emptively block @people she lists in tweets. If enough people block you (even if you've never tweeted them), Twitter's software automatically suspends your account when a certain threshold has been reached, and you have to appeal. These people really are despicable.Metalogic42 wrote:I sent one tweet to Twatson, was that a mistake?Gumby wrote:Are you including the "@names" of FtBtards or Skepskanks in your tweets?Metalogic42 wrote:I just got suspended from Twitter for the second time in 24 hours, what the fuck is this shit?
Re: Slyme Pit Orgy, Sponsored by Vicky's Bewbs
One of the regular and fairly prolific commenters over FTB and on Pharyngula in particular is Rodney Nelson. He was 'Tis Himself until Strange Gods Before Me nailed him for being an absolutely incorrigible plagiarist in his comments. He may have even been an OM (Order of the Molly - decorated Pharyngula super-commenter).
When "Rodney Nelson" recently showed up after 'Tis Himself disappeared, he lit into SGBM and aroused suspicion as being a potential sock. This was then confirmed by Xanthe, who, apparently as an A+ mod, had I believe compared IP addresses and confirmed the link. SGBM then found that Rodney Nelson had plagiarized Wikipedia in one of his first comments with the new nym.
Anyway, I'm just thinking about how much of a capital offense plagiarism is in academia and about the fact that PZ makes his students start blogs as homework assignments. Seems strange that, as far as I know, PZ never commented on 'Tis Himself's plagiarism and hasn't followed up on the Rodney Nelson situation. He's a good comrade, always toe-ing the A+ line, so there's that. And PZ kind of hates SGBM for being a thread-cop. But you'd think PZ, as an academic and "critical thinker," would still give a shit about a regular commenter's consistently cribbing shit in order to look smart.
Apologies for not providing links, but someone with good google-fu can scare up the incidents if they care.

I agree about the Twitter platform. It really is a sucky way to communicate. Having a substantive discussion on twitter is like trying to play hopscotch on a checkerboard. However, it was fun taking part in hijacking the #atheismplus hashtag, and helping keep the #FTBullies hashtag after the Pharyngula crowd tried to hijack it. Stupid, but fun, because twitter for some unknown reason is very important to those imbeciles.

Good idea. I'm ignorant about paypal, contributing to the pit was the first time I've ever used it. The email addy I use for my paypal acct is my real name. I don't care if Lsuoma knows my name, but I wouldn't want most people to know. Maybe if I change my email addy, it would make it truly anonymous. Agree on all your points. I enjoy Vicky's posts (and yeah, I love that avatar, but I guess I'm just a typical white cis ... male) and have enjoyed Eucli's posts after the initial diarrhea.
