Upon reaching $5K can we move on to funding a date between Justin and Eucliwood?
We'll need to pay for a camera a crew and probably some high-powered legal representation too.
Holy fuck, I mean Jason not Justin.
Justin's suffered more than enough.

Sorry.

Yep.People really should understand how to stop this shit-flood if they want to. I can only believe that they don't.

As people know, there's no banning or censoring, so I'm not going to help you out here.

Last week I was frustrated and mentioned setting a global flood limit of 30 minutes, then exempting everyone but Eucliwoo from it. That was correctly called as a dick/baboon move and it didn't happen.

Over to you, folks...

Sigh. So, Dillahunty has a new video up on Free Speech, Censorship and Banning. I haven't watched it yet (gearing up to be masochistic this morning) but I'll put it here for everyone else to torture themselves as they see fit:

lolz it was merely an observation. I know how to block/ignore if need be.
I commend you for resisting the urge to whip out the hammer even if you feel it's justified to a degree. Maybe the PeeZud and athi-minus crew can learn tolerance, but i doubt it. :)

"Threadrupt" means basically "haven't had time or spoons to catch up on this ginormous thread (so cut me some slack, thanks gang)."
I'm at a loss trying to figure out what the "rupt" part refers to. The only word I can think of is "Bank-rupt" but I don't see the connection with not reading a thread.

I think it would be hilarious if they wrote her, having the audacity to try to "educate her" about her response written in a book called "bossypants" about the kind of mail she gets. I suspect the irony escapes them.
I commented to a comedian once when he said something that I recognised as being very insensitive. He was "relating" to folks with palsy, Parkinsons etc. by comparing it to being drunk all the time. I happen to know that the assumption that they are necessarily mentally impaired, or the suspicion that they are actually drunk rather than disabled, can be a source of upset and embarrassment to those groups and mentioned to him that he might be hurting peoples' feelings in his over-stretched attempt to relate to them.

Needless to say, doing so was a mistake. Comedians really don't like it. I hope they send that letter.

It's ingrained in us to rubber-neck when we see a disaster. We've all been staring at the 5 car pile up as we drive slowly by.

Then for most of us, one of the people involved has run up to our car and punched us in the face. So we're sticking around a while longer. (Waiting for the police? This is where my metaphor falls apart.)
We need to care about these people because:

1) Some of the things they do are actively harmful.

2) They are attempting to become the single voice that speaks for the atheism movement.

Point 2) is why the banning, blocking, blacklisting etc. matters. These people are trying to control the debate and exclude dissenting voices. Look at that conference line-up from the other thread, every speaker is a true believer. That paradigm must not win.

The posting process is faster than before, but it's hard to tell if the fresh thread is the reason.

But I'm totally in favour of shorter threads for easier search and less messy filing.

Depends. As someone who suffers from long-term chronic depression (properly diagnosed, and being dealt with, though I've had enough therapy to start a fucking psychology conference), and who has close friends who have proper, kosher, ME; spoons can be a useful concept to get across to non-sufferers that sometimes one just has had fucking enough of everything and one has to hermit until one is recovered.

Where it is not useful is where its appropriated by special snowflakes who use it for the purposes of receiving attention.

I'm come to learn that it is the rare individual who isn't damaged in some way; emotionally, mentally, physically, etc. Life has a tendency to wound. In that sense, unless we're talking about the margins, we're pretty much all the same.

I find it fantastic that people would take the mundane and elevate themselves above everyone else because of it.

From the Thinking Atheist Podcast link:
Description:
What happens when professed critical thinkers don't direct their same skeptical eye toward non-religion related issues?
If someone is a rationalist on the issue of the supernatural, does that automatically qualify them on the other hot topics that confront us in this world.
We talk with Michael Shermer of Skeptic Magazine about a number of issues that invoke strong beliefs and opinions, including global warming, gun control, Area 51, the Zeitgeist films and more.

Dillahunty is quite obviously very sensitive to criticism and drama. He has said a few times that he's done with this stuff but he can't stay away. If Justicar keeps making videos about him now that he's said he won't reply to them it is going to drive Dillahunty nuts because there is no chance he won't be watching them. Some people just can't let things go, even when they try to persuade themselves that those things are beneath them.

Naw, don't that. I think she, like the rest of us, should be allow whatever the heck she wants (as long as it's legal), whenever she wants.
Cause free speech and shit. Power to the people, ya'll.

Depending on who you listen to.
She was always pretty non-confrontational and not a good fit for the baboon squad. She has already been declared a non person by many of the Horde for not conforming to the Received Wisdom.

Apologies if this came thru twice.
I hope this isn't you lot who have scared her off. Collateral damage in giving PZ Myers and Rebecca Watson the criticism they deserve is not OK.

I highly doubt it is anything directly to do with us.
She has never even been mentioned on the Slymepit, as far as I can recall or if she has, she was never considered part of the ingroup. The slymepit long ago called their opponents the FC6 (PZ, Ophelia, Greta, Watson, Svan and Laden - which dropped to the FC5 after Laden was expelled from FTB.) Our arguments with FTB have always been against specific individuals. Some FTBers like Mano Singham and Maryam Namazie, have never been criticised and only spoken of in praise. Others, like Karen, were neutrals in the fight and so were never in our sights.

Imagine if Ewwood was a man and Jason a woman. There would already be at least half a dozen blogposts about it on the feminist blogging sites like ftb and skepchick.
Hmmmm.....That reminds me of a project for some of our brave SJWs who live in Vancouver. Someone is in need of a nice home and a support network:

B.C. Corrections issues warning as high-risk violent offender makes move to Vancouver
http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/01/07 ... vancouver/
The branch said Bourque has also offended violently against people, is being closely monitored by authorities and has 46 court-ordered conditions she must follow.

The woman has a curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and isn’t allowed to access social networking sites.

Bourque is also forbidden from possessing any weapons, including knives or other bladed instruments, except to prepare food, and must stay away from people under age 18.

The petite, 130 pound woman, studied criminology and psychology at Simon Fraser University last year.

Prof. Rob Gordon, who heads the criminology department at SFU, said the university called police after another student told a teaching assistant that Bourque mentioned some of her crimes and that she may have spoken about her fantasies of killing a homeless person.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/bri ... le7016117/
Ms. Bourque was arrested in March after revealing to a fellow student that she disembowelled and dismembered cats in her hometown of Prince George and fantasized about murdering someone.

After her arrest, police found a bag containing a knife, razor blade, syringe, mask, garbage bags and zap straps in her SFU residence room. They also found a video of her torturing her cat and eviscerating her family’s dog.
Welp, anyone up to the task? Think of the homeless people men at risk. Do your part.

Anyways, s/h/it's comments are right at the top, so make of them what ye will: http://rtr.org/videofeed/y-T9b7FPIeg

I wouldn't necessarily call it "having an ego", as someone who was really self-assured would not be affected by it.

Remember my little rant on AtheismPlus about educating the snowflakes to show some appreciation to AtheismTV.... long story short, here's the screen cap. Sorry about the size. Hope it fits. BTW, this post has been removed. Why didn't they just put a trigger warning on it instead? ho-hum.(screencapped)

"atheismtv" was kind enough to offer you a video clip to view at your leisure, and found this forum to be a suitable canvas to publish(link) material which we may find of significant value. You know, value to the atheist community.

I haven't read a single "Thank You" from any of the first respondents.
What the hell is wrong with some of you? Do you treat YouTube with the same disdain for not accommodating you for each and every limp dick ailment? Hey, some may be hard of hearing, others vision impaired. I get all that But you are implying that it's the responsibility of (in this case) AtheismTV to accommodate each and every little snowflake here and in return be given a fuckin' finger for not buying you all brand new computers with headsets and 3D glasses so you can view the video clip unobstructed?

Atheismtv actually agreed on one valid point. The transcription of said video. Great idea! Well you fuckin' do it yourself.

For shame. Shame on you, especially you Kassiane. I'm surprised you didn't throw in the usual troll words like "privilege" Oh wait,......

If i were you i'd grant atheismtv a pass. He/she/it was completely unaware that "Atheismplus" does not fly the Atheism flag. It's just a pretty little name for you folks.

I forgot about the ban and tried logging in and surprise surprise, i have now been permanently banned.
Awesome.
I earned my AtheismPlus unmerit badge.

Reason for ban: UnbelieveSteve: For cramming more ableism into a single post than one would think possible.

Thank you Athi-minus. You've made me a better person, but most importantly you realized your inability to say thank you for AtheismTV's contribution to your so-called Atheism forum blah blah blah.

holy shit, you have cougars? Maybe the dogs that're out have fences or maybe they were barking from inside their houses. I had a nightmare about a cougar after i read that story about a golden retriever saving his (her?) master from the claws and jaws of a cougar (s/he survived <3).

Lsuoma,

Can you place at the "current bottom" of a thread an anchored link like "Refresh Comments" or "Thread End"

At times, my browser gets redirected to link of the form:

viewtopic.php?f=31&p=46898#p46898

And what that means is that after that, when I hit refresh, the browser first jumps to a very old comment, then jumps to where I currently am (which is basically at "Thread End").

You don't generally find the sort of fences that have a hope in Hell of keeping out a cougar at a private residence. Shit, you'd probably violate a dozen zoning ordinances trying to put one up. They don't call the things mountain lions because they suck at the jumping and climbing, you know.

This guy is such a twit. "Free Speech"? Hell, I couldn't make it all the way through the video. He speaks about people not having a right to come into your house and say whatever they want. You know, he's right! But then, I don't leave the door to my house open where anyone can just walk in. People ring the doorbell, or knock, I look to see if it's someone I know, then I either let them in or not.

He's comparing this to social media. Well, if you only want your friends to see your facebook page, twitter account, blog, etc. the make it PRIVATE and only those you specifically allow to come in can comment. People you actually know. Otherwise, it's pretty much an open forum, especially on a blog, and even if you do have "registration" enabled, you don't necessarily know who those people are or what they might say.

I hope someone else can listen to it all. Maybe he makes a point or 2 in the second half that I just couldn't hold it in long enough to listen to. This guy has absolutely NO critical thinking skills. He says in the beginning he's doing a "brain dump". Well his brains are shit then because he hasn't thought about what he was going to say before he took his dump.
