Sure thing. Try to check them out in the order I listed. I haven't used paint.NET, but it was an immediate hit when first released. It's users luuurve that program, which means there are more tutorials and communities available than for the others. However, it's at a bit of a crossroads at the moment, with the original developer having departed and development slowing a bit under the new guy. Still, it supposed to be good stuff and probably the one you should go with.
Pinta is newer and created explicitly to be a FOSS paint.NET clone. Development is moving at a nice clip. If you choose Pinta, I'm able to install it on my Linux system for reference if you want help.
Don't think twice about asking for help.

Actually, he has a very valid point, and it has nothing to do with masculinity. As you can see, I have also made the point multiple times, and I do not have a cock. This is a very FtB-like tactice. "You're just saying that to ___ (something that amounts to picking at you or making you look bad." Nice way to not address the post at all. He has a point. Empathy doesn't have an on/off switch, it's capable of infinite nuance. We can simultaneously hold that being raped at twelve is an unimaginably horrible thing -- all abuse when visited on children is just that much more horrible-- and be awed by how you survived and even thrived.

CFI Member, WiS attendee, and I just happen to be the President of Secular Woman. I am looking forward to meeting you at HEADS.
I think we need to find ways to better welcome, integrate, listen to, and accept women as equal participants in the secular community and social movement. I am including IRL and online.
Leaders need to be vocal in their support of women; otherwise, the main voices driving the conversation regarding feminism and secularism tend to be extreme and noninclusive. They alienate women in the movement and those that are checking the movement out to see if it is something of interest.
As for feminism influencing missions . . . YES. Secularism is about getting religion out of government. Much of how religion infests our government has to do with religious zealots attempting (and recently succeeding) to pass religious-based legislation regarding a women’s right to her own body. For this reason, for many women secularism and feminism are intimately intertwined.
#2 Ophelia Benson on Wednesday January 09, 2013 at 6:33pm
What Kim said. Frankly I don’t have much hope at this point that the differences can be narrowed or resolved. With big name guys throwing vitriol at selected Enemy Women and all but holding them up as targets, it seems to me that women are just going to say the hell with it and stay away. I know several who have already decided that. That is of course the goal of the guys throwing vitriol, and I think they’re going to get their way.
#3 Kim Rippere (Guest) on Wednesday January 09, 2013 at 6:45pm
If they win and women stay away secularism will slowly dwindle and with it any hope that atheism and secularism will win the day. Instead it will be a group of people isolated in their beliefs that have no hope of making impact at any level. The hope that many have of a vibrant and impactful social movement rests on our ability to fully include women. IMO.
Isn't it fair to say that the women who are in secularism who won't back down are the ones who don't make everything about them being a woman and all they want to talk about how sexist we all are?
I blame the conference organizer for whenever Watson started this meme. Someone should've just turned off her mike and said "Sorry, the whackjobs are at the psychics' convention down the boulevard".

So, you're seriously from Freethought Blogs? Anyway, "moaning" clearly wasn't meant in the connotation of "complaining about something light" and you know it, so stop over demonizing people. I'm so tired of FtBers doing this - yes, someone can be a victim of sexual assault, all your post was was a bunch of "there is no level at which you can tell someone not to post about their assault so much that I wont criticize you for." Yes, there is a such thing as using your assault experience excessively. All you did was go "but its sexual assault! anyone that suggests that someone can use this too damn much is a monster!" and it's a very easy card to use. Big whoop.
I've been sexually assaulted multiple times, and I do not use these experiences... especially not as some sort of shield or level up. I really want to know the nature of Zvan's assault to see if it's even an assault like any of mine - what does she mean? It could be an ass slap for all I know. I do not trust her.

He brought this to my attention because both of us were exhausted by the conversations we had with seemingly smart people who could not see that Feminism was actually a negative movement. It did not wish, like the more established women's rights movement, for women to be treated as equals, though they claimed that.
The article's headline brought this home neatly. The question was not "Have you ever bought fake tickets?" Because to do so would be to admit two things.
1. Women are responsible actors.
2. Women make mistakes.
This lead me to look through my wife's glossy chinwagrags And time and time again from the Glossies to the Celebrity Stalker magazines there is a type of language that is used commonly to absolve women of any blame for anything usually with a subtle implication that whatever happens that is negative is somehow a man's fault. Fake-tits McAirhead, rolls around coked out of her mind half naked and preganant? Well it's not her fault, she just split up with her boyfriend.[/spoiler]
It really hit home to me when locally there was a case were a woman murdered her children, savagely, with a knife. I heard two women talking about it. The first had, in error, automatically assumed that it was the father and when corrected, when told no, it was the mother, replied "yeah, well I bet her man drove her to it."
Anecdotal, certainly, nor would I claim that even a large minority think this way, but it is clear to me, at this late stage that there are those fighting for women and human rights and those who just fear men. Feminism is increasingly a club for the latter bunch, a coterie of spoiled and vindictive shrews.
Reminds me of the comment by Judge Stong in the Elaine Campione case, where she drowned her own kids then claimed she did it because their father was abusive but was given custody of the kids, so she was "protecting" them. Her own mother testified on the fathers behalf and said it was her own daughter that was abusive... yet, the judge, after the jury had found her guilty, said "It is more than disconcerting to think that if Campione had not been so abused, so used and discarded as a person, her two daughters could still be alive…"

Mmmm. Yeah. Okay. You misunderstand. Look, I wasn't trying to say she shouldn't ever refer to it. Clearly I was badly parsing it. Let me rephrase. What I object to in Stephanie Zvan's saying she's been sexually assaulted "every chance she gets" is that she uses it constantly as a victim card. Which wasn't meant to discount her sexual assault in any way, and I'm sorry it came out that way. A right cunt's move indeed. But it was more meant to illustrate how she keeps milking it for all it's worth. Yes, she has used it before - when she denigrated Dawkins, for one, and once more during the Ashley Miller kerfuffle. I'm forgetting another time when she brought it up as a novelty, anyway "every chance she gets" should maybe be revised as an exaggeration.
In fact, strike "every chance she gets". It was a poor choice of words. I also wasn't saying she couldn't write whatever she wanted on her own blog. Ehhh. Maybe I should just go to bed because I'm obviously not thinking straight.

HI - I’m a secular feminist writer and media critic and regularly write and speak on the topic of gender in culture. As a firm and vocal believer in secularism, I too, think that it is vital that as we develop this community we are aware of how thoroughly our broader cultural norms exclude women and their perspectives. And how easily these broader cultural norms are being seamlessly transferred into this environment as it grows. It’s not enough to say “we’ve invited women†or “there’s a woman presenting,†etc. Rather, we need good men who understand what is at stake and explicitly advocate as allies on behalf of women. We will not move the needle unless men engage in genuine bystander intervention to confront the perpetuation of very subtle but powerful influences that inhibit parity for women. Both as individuals and as members and usually leaders of institutions. Because of the simple fact that men literally rule - in politics, religion, media, etc. - they have a disproportionate cultural currency. How we leverage that currency in the secular world shouldn’t accidental, but should be deliberate - especially if you want to cultivate diversity and not just gender diversity. Because the understanding of difference that is the foundation of gender bias is the same one that serves to feed racial, ethnic, sexual and other biases. It seems to me that this cultural currency can either be spent to perpetuate patriarchy and misogyny and sexism or to create an environment where women, and others who do not conform to our prevalent norms - especially of leadership and visibility - are not only tolerated, but openly embraced as a class and where men with influence who are interested in doing the right thing and creating a more just world advocate on their behalf and are outspoken allies.

Rape Laws in India
3. Gang Rape ( Sec.376 Subsection 2- g)
“Where a woman is raped by one or more in a group of persons acting in furtherance of their common intention, each of the persons shall be deemed to have committed gang rape within the meaning of this sub-section. â€
Thus even if five men force a women into having sexual intercourse with only one of them, the remaining four will also be considered to have committed rape under this law. Punishment
Rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than ten years but which may be for life and shall also be liable to fine: Provided that the court may, for adequate and special reasons to be mentioned in the judgment, impose a sentence of imprisonment of either description for a term of less than ten years.

Note the last part. The court is capable of offering a lower sentence. I don’t know, specifically, what was going on, and it may be caused by something else entirely, but presumably the courts often bend the meaning of “adequate and special†to provide much shorter sentences.

Anjana Mishra rape case
Anjana Mishra rape case was a high profile rape case that occurred in state of Orissa (India) in 1999. Anjana Mishra, estranged wife of an Indian Forest Service officer, was raped on 9 January 1999. The case had created a furore in the State with Anjana accusing the then Chief Minister J. B. Patnaik and his friend former Advocate-General of Orissa Indrajit Ray of having played a role in the incident…
…
After a long battle, Anjana Mishra has won her case. In a judgment delivered on 29 April 2002 the District and Sessions Judge of Khurda, Orissa,
sentenced two of the three accused persons in the case to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs.5,000 each. Judge Mahendra Nath Patnaik convicted Pradip Sahoo and Direndra Mohanty on charges of sexually assaulting Anjana while she was travelling in a car from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar along with a friend on 9 January 1999 . The third accused, Biban Biswal, is still absconding.

As I’ve run into the same problem, I expect it’s due either to double-clicking – least probable – or that there’s a hiccup in the system – most probable. In the latter case I’ve found that sometimes the system times out and I think the message hasn’t been posted so repost and find two there on returning. YMMV.
However, in passing, I like your signature as well, although I think the “may†is the operative if problematic word, even if it has an Old Testament flavour. Speaking of which, reminds me or leads me to these of a similar nature:
Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish. [Proverbs 12:1]
Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured. [ibid 13:18]
He who refuses correction despises his own soul, but he who listens to reproof gets understanding. [ibid 15:32]
A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool. [ibid 17:10]

I decided to adopt a "hands off" attitude over the case and let the Indians debate this among themselves.
In case you are wondering why, India is a huge country with more than a few different ethnic groups and different cultures and castes with a long history and a lot of baggage between them.
From my limited exposure to a limited subset of several of those cultures, I was pretty certain that there was more to that bus rape than what the West was having pornographic orgasms over (the guy who was with the girl ... vanished from the narative for example). There are other implication such as what area the family came from and what community they were living in. No mention of the in-group/out-group caste and relative social standing of all the various parties involved and/or the unbrindled hatred on display.
There is much more to this that meets the eye, and I am pretty confident that not many in the West are qualified to understand (including me) what the various dynamics involved were other than a superficial one based on the news reports.
OK I am done. But here is a cleanser:
Jodhaa Akbar the song Khwaja Mere Khwaja
[youtube]Pam8tXa6pkM[/youtube]
(Incidentally this is Sufi music and as such is haram (forbidden) to many Muslims just on those grounds. This song may also be considered shirk (Polytheism) by the traditionalists because, while it praises and requests intercession by a Saint, it comes too close for comfort to rivalling Allah (swt) for them to be comfortable with it.
Khwajaji, khwaja (O saint khwaja)
Khwajaji, khwaja, khwaja ji (O saint khwaja) , (O saint khwaja)
Ya gharib nawaz (The one who cherishes/soothes the poor)

Dil mein sama ja (Reside in my heart)
Shaho ka shah tu (You are the king of kings)
Ali ka dulara (Ali's beloved)
Khwaja mere khwaja dil mein sama ja (O saint khwaja); (Reside in my heart)
Beqaso ki taqdeer, tune hai sawari (The destiny of the ones in despair, you have changed for the better)
Khwaja mere khwaja (O saint khwaja)
Tere darbar mein khwaja (At your door, o khwaja)

Sar jhuka te hai auliya (Your confidents/protectors/confessors bow down to you)
