I contended sacha is an independent entity from 'franc' but I got the distinct impression Aratina did not. I also noted on here there had been some discussion about sacha and 'franc' being one and the same --- but I thought that was just jocularly posed. I then got the impression that Ophelia thought Mykeru was also a sock! However as you showed she reckons she knows who he is, and actually 5 secs on his website makes it pretty obvious he has been around far too long to be a 'franc' sock... Anyway comes down to some sad gossiping about the pitters and conspiracy theories - I'm also mortified that 'franc' will find this hilarious and get off on it increasing his status as the Pit Pimpernel. I'll defend myself as coming at it from the angle that these are not and were not 'franc' socks and they were giving him way too much credit! I respond to TeenSkepchick writer Kate Donovan who accused me of ableism in my previous post in which I wrote

I handle controversy really well; I do not break down in tears, jump to unreasonable conclusions about my safety, or have mental breakdowns. When I was preparing to challenge the constitutionality of a religious holiday display on a courthouse lawn in Luzerne County, I was told that I will very likely receive death threats, threats of violence, and a great deal of nastiness. I was ‘warned,’ one might say, and had every opportunity to back down and ‘pass’ the issue to someone else. I did not. I was aware of the potential outcomes of what turned out to be my very public challenge and weathered the nonsense.

We brought him to Australia when we moved over. A few years later he developed a tumour in his throat, so we had to put him down. That morning I took him out so he could chase the kangaroos for the last time. He loved it and I was gutted.

At Skepticon, PZ Myers is billed back to back with Rebecca Watson. The level of recycling that evening will probably be unprecedented. Perhaps these Social Justice Warriors see this as a way to justify the size of their carbon footprint (Protect the environment: recycle your lectures.) Never had to use it. Although when black bears attack they are primarily predatory, that is, they want to eat you, chuck, for the most part those bears are pretty opportunistic only and timid. When cubs are involved all bets are off though.

I have faced down and made a mama bear retreat but I really do not recommend getting into that situation (we were both surprised) because it could turn ugly real quickly.

I've only shot two things in my life: A sparrow when I was 10 with a BB gun, which I felt bad about and a rattlesnake in AZ who left me nowhere to go, which I don't feel all that bad about. I don't hunt and when I've run across a deer, my only thought is "why would anyone want to shoot you?"

Well you and I differ in that respect. I loved killing when I was younger. I was however surprised to notice my bloodlust disappeared once I started having kids, and I certainly do not miss the hypervigilance either.

I think I understand though how some people can get addicted to that kind of stuff. It is not so much the actuall killing, but the other sensations that go with it, although I could do without the acompanying taste of copper in my mouth, I believe that may be why some people are adreline junkies.

Also, deer overpopulation is ecologic Hell in a lot of places, since we've done away with most of their "natural" predators in most of the country (I insist that humans are a perfectly natural predator, but the way most people insist that everything we do is unnatural, you'd think we were zombies or something).

Deer are fucking bad that way. Herds ignore food and other population pressure until they starve en masse.

At one point, Alabama's deer population was growing by 10% per year. Their bow season was 4/Day, no seasonal limit, for 79 days, and dear lord SHOOT ALL THE FUCKING DOES YOU CAN.

We have at least one and presumably fat and happy cougar in the area. While I have not seen him others have, who is doing a pretty creditable job of keeping the local deer population down.

Which is a good thing. Deer are as destructive as goats if they are not kept constantly moving around.
