Wow. What does she have against exercise? And yes, you can exercise naked in your own freakin room for free. Even the poorest public schools teach you sit-ups.

Well, it's the same old fucking story innit? Christianity gets hijacked by dominionists and creationists. Islam gets hijacked by islamists (in this case, completely enabled and legitimised by pseudo humanists), the green movement gets hijacked by international socialists... Really, what's new? And who bears the ultimate responsibility for this? The silent rank and file that keeps their mouths shut, whistle and look the other way, and just hope it sorts itself out.

Well, it never does.[/spoiler]

That's why I wonder if atheism is worth saving. Stupid shmucks do nothing but brag about how intellectually and morally superior they are. Sorry, no. You're a bunch of limp wristed weenies that allow maniacs to walk all over you without a peep of protest.
Have to agree. And I've honestly lost interest in the whole atheism thing ever since I caught wind of the drama. [In the Spring of 2012 I saw Doormat tweet that just mentioning Twatson made people go crazy, started looking around, found Phawrongula and James Onen's blog posts and got myself caught up. A few suspended Twatter accounts later, and I eventually ended up here.]

Before that point, I was going at it with creationists on facebook pages and youtube comments on a daily basis. Ever since? Not so much. Seeing so many atheist, to include a few that I used to admire, fall to the same cheap tricks and appeals that they ridiculed the theists and creationists for has been one hell of a learning experience....

I wonder if she ever passed by an inner city boxing gym or ever seem those runners from really poor African nations that tend to win cross-country events...

Thanks for the welcome! And Za-zen, I apologize for brazenly entering your safe space (hurr) and will remember to check my privilege in future...

Somebody recently mentioned a thread on "Atheism+ proudest achievements" or something like that, and the only way I could fit the idea of them actually believing that they'd achieved anything into my head was by thinking of them like the little boy narrator in Starlight Express, playing with his trains and turning them into heroes and villains.

If I were any sort of artist I would love to draw a comic strip all about our friends the Social Justice Warriors. Someone could have a lot of fun drawing appropriate characters for Setar et al.

Well, just remember there is no difference between giving someone nonverbal approval and taking the time to make a post about the approval - if one is a popularity contest, so is the other.

Prisoners in isolation cells - let's say an 8ft by 6ft room, with a bed, a toilet, 4 walls and a doorframe - manage to maintain pretty fucking nice bodies, including getting very effective cardio routines going.

This cunt's just, as Tigzy says, a fat cunt who, because they surround themselves with other cunts telling them that nothing is their fault, has completely disempowered themself. Sad, really.

What!? Do you not realize that you as a woman are the victim of an illuminati style conspiracy of rapists in waiting and that you need to embrace your 24/7 state of victimhood? It must be the patriarchy at work!
The patriacrhy....it's everyyyyywheeeeerrrrreeeeee!!!!!
And in the hope of contributing something of substance to this thread, it has occurred to me that the common trait shared by many of the A+ brigade is a deeply ingrained childishness, because of which they are made hysterical by perceived "meanness" (only when directed at the underprivileged or certain approved privileged allies, of course, everyone else can be told to go and do unspeakable things to a porcupine)
After reading the A+ forums I'm convinced that their "movement" ended up as nothing more than a self contained online shelter of some of the most fragile and damaged human beings I've ever observed. The very fact that Matt Dillahunty making a second account could cause some of them to write emotional diatribe messages that made it sound like he had come to their home, choked their puppy and kicked their mom down some stairs was quite eye opening as to just how damaged some human beings can be. The fact that someone posting "*hugs*" too often in someone else's emotional baggage thread could lead to a major incident and some meltdowns really makes me wonder just how many of them need some real life medical assistance.

Wow this place is really buzzing. I take a two week holiday (ok, so I lurked a couple of times without logging in), and there has been an influx of refugees and assorted immigrants. Way cool.

Far too many comments to respond to individually, so please accept a general round of applause. I'd tip my hat if I had one.

Oh hell no. As someone who has struggled with childhood obesity, and overcome it through a lot of exercise, eating the right foods and denying myself a lot of very tasty but counter productive foods, drinks and other vices..... I can spot a sob story a mile off, and have little sympathy for it. Funnily enough, it is intertwined with my rejection of precisely the victim mentality that is rife in the community.

I'm banned I guess at Skepchick, but that article was pretty funny.
1) Six months of you dieting on another diet is not a control -- your experiment is over before it started.
2) Two months of dieting is not a valid test of low carb dieting, the first month is usually a lot of weight loss as you lose water, even with low carb, and that may or may not continue the second month, depending on various factors.
3) A data set of one person with no control of a two month diet starting in winter (or summer) makes for no data that can be used to conclude anything
Oh. Well, I see you have no qualifications whatsoever even to understand my objections. So carry on You go grrl!

Sacha, everything's cool. I am up to speed now. Thank you to everyone who had the patience to fill me in.

A couple of thoughts, however:

Why do noobies have a bad habit of requesting information from forum posters that they could most likely dig up with a little bit of effort on their own? I have noticed this on many many forums. Most of all, I think people just like to 'talk', in real time. Can it be construed as rude and egotistical to expect old-timers to drop everything and give the noobie the entire history? Yes. But, I don't think that's always the intent. I think that people just want to connect in real time; nothing -necessarily- eebil and thoughtless about it at all.
No, it's not always the intent, but as someone once said, intent is not magic :violence-smack:

Hmm, maybe a thread elsewhere with links that sum up this whole trainwreck. I might start something. I admire you for catching up with everything in one day. I have been reading up on this clusterfuck for years and there are still details that pop up that I don't get. I don't know when Vacula became an un-person. Who's this Russell Blackford character and what does he have to do with it all? Who is Sara Mayhew? No shit, the tentacles of this thing go on and on and fucking on. Also: I don't know Sacha, but I like it when she gets mad.

I believe s/h/it joined around the time of the mod-mole speculation. No posts, and no evidence it's even the same person.

Not quite accurate. simpleflower wasn't giving out hugs... she intercepted hugs in someone else's hug thread... or something. It makes about as much sense as an interior crocodile ignition.

The original discussion (which was split from another thread) has been memory holed. Screencaps here via Justicar's video on the subject.

Despite being in possession of a vagina I became disenchanted with PZ and his merry band of sycophants shortly after the Elevatorgate affair, and have been lurking at the 'pit (blog and forum) since then. You all should be applauded  for keeping the spotlight pointed at the baboons and baboon wannabes as they galumph (love that word, Renee, thanks for reminding me of it!) about, spraying their whining, hypocritical graffiti all over the online atheist community.

And in the hope of contributing something of substance to this thread, it has occurred to me that the common trait shared by many of the A+ brigade is a deeply ingrained childishness, because of which they are made hysterical by perceived "meanness" (only when directed at the underprivileged or certain approved privileged allies, of course, everyone else can be told to go and do unspeakable things to a porcupine). Falsely flagging YouTube videos or Twitter accounts is the exact equivalent of the six-year-old's coup de grace "I'm telling on youuuuu", is it not?

Oh my gosh, I just read this: http://phawrongula.wikia.com/wiki/Athei ... r_Meltdown

That is some STUPID SHIT right there.

By December 27th, Flewellyn (the moderator at the heart of the Matt Dillahunty/curious debacle), stepped in to try an pour some water on the flames, acknowledging that this was a super-serious issue:

You know what? Kassiane's right. We fucked up.

Mai's post there was inexcusable. I've taken the liberty of hiddentexting it. But it ignored the very thing you'd posted about earlier: it's not okay to blame violence on abuse victims.

I want to explain (not excuse, explain) what's been happening here. We, I and the other mods, have been trying to have a conversation about this in admin forum space. Mai didn't just hurt Kassiane there, she also hurt Ceepolk and several other members. The discussion...has not gone well. Mai tends not to respond for days, and when she has done so, she has so far not acknowledged the harm she's done.

We're looking at an impasse here. We need to take action, but mods have no direct power over each other.

Regardless, we should have moved on this sooner. I'm just not sure what we should actually do here.

- Flewellyn.
Excuse me, Flewellyn, but wondering if someone was ABUSED is not "blaming violence on abuse victims," dumb ass. Same insult goes to Kassiane. It also wasn't abusive of Mai to wonder if his mother had honestly done something to him, since he was angry enough to kill her. Let's not pretend that its never true sometimes when someone murders their own parents, the parents did something, and call it "abuse victim blaming."
Who gives a fuck if Kassiane and Ceepolk are hurt, because they think the fact that sometimes people are abused by parents which causes them to explode (which DOES happen sometimes... I wonder what happens when they watch crime tv about an episode... for example that episode in which this woman was brutally abused by her father and took it out on others poorly?) would be "blaming violence on abuse victims in general."

It would be different if he just snapped and shot people at random in some public space... with no agenda against his mother. Now saying "hmm, maybe he was abused by his parents," would be a random and farfetch'd question.

No, it's called fucking acknowledging that that's ONE CAUSE sometimes. We can't ignore that just because some dumb shits think that that fact would mean that abuse victims in general are dangerous (Kassiane, Ceepolk, Flewellyn). They're the offensive ones here. Sorry, but it's true... that does NOT mean that abuse victims are "dangerous," you dumb shits.

Same with bullying. The fact that sometimes bullying victims blow up (while many bullying victims /do not/) does not mean that bullying victims are either. Complaining that saying this would imply that bullying victims are dangerous implies that this very real fact confirms that bullying victims are dangerous, since it's, ykno, actually true.

I love how in the same forum, people wanted to point out that the Elmo accuser was abused, so let's not "abuse the victim." Why isn't that BLAMING VICTIMS OF ABUSE for false accusations?

I fucking hate those dumb shits.

That is funny. Especially because on a few occasions, they've taken shots at me over the use of my middle initial. "Oh, John *C* Welch, isn't he pretentious".

John C. Welch, there is nothing the least bit pretentious about your name. Nothing about your name stood out to me the first time I heard it. Just goes to prove that those fucks are living in a fantasy world. A world where they can take pot-shots at people and feel all righteous in doing so because they are oppressed

Right, so their theory is that debates about politics online are usually polite and civil. It's only when a woman shows up that men abandon that veneer and start being total wankers.

Not only can exercise be free, but it can earn you money. Hell Ive worked as a furniture delivery guy, garden landscaper and general handyman. Its just more of the "oppressed underclasses" who are conspicuously absent from menial labour. Cue Benson's "pewww... a smelly working class male on public transport......no wait! I totally do understand menial labour!."

Some people do "go for walks" but it takes diet changes as well.. and not everyone has the time or energy to do some hardcore working out 3x a week. Motivation's also an issue.. "man, when I get off, I also have to go exercise.. urgh." &when you literally set a time for it, you recognize that that is a chunk of time out of your day. Having a set schedule for *anything* can suck the cool out of it.. even playing a cool board game. I recommend just doing it whenever - in between breaks, spontaneously, etc... not setting a time to go out for a walk. You'll hardly notice how much you've walked then.

And Renee Hendricks, sometimes people are from European countries... defense is defence... realize is realise... etc.

Karma would be for posters, not posts. So Abbie, franc, SN, welch, etc., would have their karma at or close to zero, while colon and some of our other favourites would be up in the stratosphere.

Up-voting posts might be helpful though, especially if one could search by rating.
