I just realized - didn't Matt say at one time that the ACA was with the A+ "movement", or that they agreed with them - something to that effect? That's one reason I have had nothing to do with the ACA - even not bothering to listen to the podcast. Assuming I'm correct, and maybe someone remembers better than I, how the hell can he say he's not wearing his "president of the ACA" hat to TF00t?

Unfortunately, the Atheism+ crowd not only does poorly with threat assessment, they suck at threat identification. To them, everything is a threat. They see the world through fear-colored glasses. Threaten them? Criticize them? Disagree with them? Question them? It’s all hate! The worst part is that many of the people who are most vocal, who are most putting themselves at risk of being criticized are the ones who are most unable to handle it. They are, as I’ve heard it described “delicate little flowers” who cannot imagine anyone would ever disagree with them. They over-react to the smallest things, from guys asking them out for coffee to people wearing t-shirts they don’t like and when they have a hissy-fit over what normal people would find absurdly minor and beneath notice and if people don’t immediately back up the support wagon to carry them around in, they scream abuse and insult and hate.
Yep. This.

FWIW, the 1987 movie of "The Glass Menagerie," starring John Malkovich, is one of my favorites. It seems to find that one tiny shred of sentimentality at the bottom of cynical soul. If you have a couple hours to kill, it is actually on youtube.

I particularly love the closing solliloquoy. Even though it rests on the story that precedes it, you can view it by fast forwarding to 20:00 on the final part.

Oh, the tears. The heartbreak. The utter tragedy of it all. I was so emotionally devastated by tekanji's tale of woe and despair that I don't have the strength to search Google Images for pictures of fainting couches. I sincerely hope this person never has to go through anything that would classify as an actual problem, because I would just feel compelled to organize a Jerry Lewis-style telethon for him/her.

Jen McCreight has done a wonderful job rounding up all the helpless, hysterical, emotionally unstable wrecks in the atheist and skeptic communities and penning them up in her blog. We should be thanking her.

As I stated earlier, it is only the people who have been *critical* of Amy who have gotten DMCA threats.

Anyone who posts positive things aka advertisements (see io9), are given a free pass.

Either theyre both DMCA worthy, or theyre both not. That only the critical ones are is evidence that Amy is abusing DMCA to silence criticism.

The bit in bold says more than enough about the mindset of the A+theism crowd. Online interactions are only as important and meaningful as offline interactions to people who don't really have all that much offline interaction. It sounds like what they really want are the friends and acceptance they apparently never got that much of in real life. I mean c'mon, you're crying over what Matt did? Strong enough to put yourself out there? Out where? An anonymous forum where the people you're interacting with are practically faceless words on a screen. Shit, I'd hate to be around any of them when they get a hangnail, the pain might just be too much for them to bear.

Oh, and oolon, I'm getting the impression that you and I are doomed to keep going around in a circle on this issue, repeating the same points over and over again without progress one way or the other. Since my goal wasn't to change your mind but to explain my personal pov, I don't think I know how to clarify my position any better than I already have in my two (very lengthy) replies to you. If that's not enough than I don't know where to go from here. I will answer to this though,
I'd bet you even the most brass-necked Pharyngulite will concede there is a chance 'franc hoggle' even could be 'redeemed'
Not as 'franc hoggle' he wouldn't be. As 'franc hoggle' he is "Proud angry masturbator, aficionado of scat porn, all-around repulsive fellow, and that's not me speculating, PZ have said as much (http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/dungeon/). And while we're at it, ask Abbie about how PZ and Greta have announced that they refuse to attend the same conferences as her because they supposedly 'fear for their safety' .

Really nice first post. I find it very suspicious that new poster turns up out of the blue and starts dumping people's real life info.
Now I think oolon is a slimy turd, but there is no need for this bollocks.
I agree, although I think it may even be oolon himself testing doxing himself to see how we'll react. This is probably one of those rare times when the links and names should be edited out of the posts. Anyone can still do a WHOIS, but that way oolon won't be able to whine and call it a docdrop. Technically it probably isn't, since it's publicly available, but first time poster docdropper smells like a setup.

This is obviously someone who just wants the Slimepit to look bad, and no one here thinks shit like this is a good thing. In any case, it's up to Lsuoma what he wants to do. Personally, when someone's very first post is doc dropping, I'm for banning because that person is just here to cause trouble. But, not my call.

I'd prefer if we had some basic rule here about not doxxing people.

That's FTB style activity - we really don't want to sink to that level.

Ahh a new poster - sorry I was about to say that this is a pretty shitty move on the slimepitters part. I mainly thought Dicks 'quoting' me was a symptom of me annoying him so I was happy to let that one pass. However seeing someone I'd not even directly addressed doing this was a bit low. I am a techie so I knew the registration would show the name I used... I shouldn't have opted out from showing my 'address' - could have led to some free pizzas for someone ;-)

Yeah, I'm thinking a dox-and-yer-gone policy might not be a bad idea...

Not able to get moderific on this till I get back to my hotel.
Lsuoma, I have adminned these types of boards before. If you ever need an extra hand with basic admin tasks like the current situation, let me know. I don't post every day but I do come here more than once a day to read. And I'd be glad to help when I can.

I'm very much against banning, it seems to go against the spirit of the board. As you say it's up to Lsuoma, but thats what I think.
Speaking of banning, I wonder how long it would last if I were to go over to the LMC and post my soundtrack to that heartbreaking tale.

I am very much against banning as well. It does go against the spirit of things here. But when someone signs up just to dox someone, I tend to think there's exceptions to every rule.

Spence wrote:Oolon is certainly most dishonest about how s/he goes about arguing. Whilst I am reluctant to agree with a separate thread, I would note that I pwned oolon in a debate on Thunderf00t's blog by pinning them down to one subject. Because thunderf00t's blog was threaded, replies were always associated with the original comment and oolon, being a troll, had to reply to that comment and not ignore or cherry pick responses. By pinning him/her down to one topic which s/he was unable to defend (because he lacks sufficient critical thinking ability to do so), s/he eventually cried off and refused to debate me, rather than retract the statement that s/he was unable to support.

Which, against such a blatant troll, is a pretty epic win IMNSHO

We need to be careful though. I think oolon should be allowed to have a voice here, troll or otherwise, and some dissenting voices, even fully retarded ones, are better than none.
Brilliant! Such a great 20-20 memory you must lead a very fulfilled life online Spence :-)

I seem to remember it as we went round and round and round on the previous thread with no one giving ground. Probably same as Saint N has recognised we will here too - we need to agree to disagree. Then on the next thread you tried to keep the pointless discussion going so I took the piss rather than the bait and you missed it was even a joke! I'll refer you to Dunning-Kruger for more investigation, you are a good 'un

Rather than ban, why not just replace the personal details of a doxxing post with asterisks - but keep the essential content (such as it is) of the post there? Seems a fair compromise to me.

Really nice first post. I find it very suspicious that new poster turns up out of the blue and starts dumping people's real life info.
Now I think oolon is a slimy turd, but there is no need for this bollocks.
Oi!

Me quoting you is exactly what you deserve for your slimy and dishonest "misquoting" of the rest of us.

I don't, however, agree with doxxing people - even lying toadies like yourself. :P

I, Magritte, am truly sorry for this, and acknowledge a HUGE penis, as large as - or larger than - that of Alfie Noakes, growing out of the centre of my forehead. This is true. Love, Magritte.
I have known this for some time now. The question is why would you post that here? Somehow I doubt that anyone here is interested in calling him or showing up at his doorstep.

BTW people, my reason for taking oolon as he appears to be, is because I once visited his site and read some of his material there. Unless he is trolling even his own blog, he does appear to me to be exactly how he portrays himself here and in other places.

Of course this could be the Aspie aspect of my personality, but so far I have not seen anything to indicate that he is anything else. Think of the thief that is convinced that everyone is exactly like him. Everyone does it, they just have not been caught at it, people who decry thieving are just being hypocrites.

In my view, oolon is operating from a similar set of premises. He really is projecting his racism, sexism, and homophobia onto everyone else. You are never going to convince him otherwise because he knows better. Everyone is like him, they just hide it better.

YMMV

Edited to remove pseudo-doxxing left in quote.

Deleting or editing someone else's post was the very thing that I couldn't figure out how to do last time. I saw a scary button in there too, somewhere among my explorations. It's said something like 'delete entire thread'. I screamed (inside my head), picturing horrible scenes of pressing the wrong buttons, and ran. Didn't stop running until I exited the administration panel. I just can't handle it. Total wimp out. I used to know my way around a much older version of this software, but that looked all different and has mostly been forgotten in some inaccessible area of my brain. I'll get friendly with BBCodes, but not the administration panel. Yikes!!!

For completeness' sake, an update: my post in the Lousy Canuck "Matt...apologize" discussion was approved for posting, apparently within the past hour.

My prior assumption that it had been shit-canned was in error. That, or it had been shit-canned but then was pulled back out and rinsed off a bit.

Utter bulshit.
Hehe is this not feeding the troll? I'd like to know why it is not reasonable given at least for the first two making any statement like that by a public figure (In the UK) would result in serious censure and resignations etc. Actually in the UK the third would result in accusations of sexism regardless of the insistence here that 'no one' in the UK thinks of c*nt as sexist!

A citation for Dick and the Uk'ers who say 'no one' in the UK sees the word this way
http://www.thefword.org.uk/features/200 ... oo_for_who
(Sorry MKG and other anti-Oolons, I'd like to respond)

The thing is, from my own point of view, I'm not going to call a white person, whether they be male or female, gay or cis or trans, a nigger. I won't call a woman a faggot. I won't call a Scottish fisherman a rightful Dolly (whatever that is, I just made it up).

But I will call Bruce, the 6.5" white, cis-gendered, very heterosexual disco bouncer a cunt if he acts as such (being a fucking ass).

My view, and the end of this particular discussion for me. Bande de cons!
Fair enuff agree to disagree. Although I would too, those fucking Bruce's really piss me off. (Hope this isn't too racist for MKG)

I'd prefer if we had some basic rule here about not doxxing people.

That's FTB style activity - we really don't want to sink to that level.
It also is bait for complaints to the webhost about privacy violations, and of course big dramatics with claims we're docdropping even when it's technically something public already.

If I were a mod, I could go along with that, and give the new poster one more chance - although it seems inconceivable that in this day and age, and with knowledge of FTB and the Pit and all the talk against doc-dropping, that this was an innocent "whoopsie" on the part of the new poster.

I second this option, if votes are being counted that is.

Just put oolon on ignore and you'll lose about 60 pages of him asking exactly the same questions over and over again.
