Unfortunately, the Atheism+ crowd not only does poorly with threat assessment, they suck at threat identification. To them, everything is a threat. They see the world through fear-colored glasses. FWIW, the 1987 movie of "The Glass Menagerie," starring John Malkovich, is one of my favorites. It seems to find that one tiny shred of sentimentality at the bottom of cynical soul. If you have a couple hours to kill, it is actually on youtube.

Online interactions are only as important and meaningful as offline interactions to people who don't really have all that much offline interaction. I am very much against banning as well. It does go against the spirit of things here. But when someone signs up just to dox someone, I tend to think there's exceptions to every rule.

Because thunderf00t's blog was threaded, replies were always associated with the original comment and oolon, being a troll, had to reply to that comment and not ignore or cherry pick responses. By pinning him/her down to one topic which s/he was unable to defend (because he lacks sufficient critical thinking ability to do so), s/he eventually cried off and refused to debate me, rather than retract the statement that s/he was unable to support.

Which, against such a blatant troll, is a pretty epic win IMNSHO :dance:

We need to be careful though. I think oolon should be allowed to have a voice here, troll or otherwise, and some dissenting voices, even fully retarded ones, are better than none.

Deleting or editing someone else's post was the very thing that I couldn't figure out how to do last time. I saw a scary button in there too, somewhere among my explorations. It's said something like 'delete entire thread'. I screamed (inside my head), picturing horrible scenes of pressing the wrong buttons, and ran. Didn't stop running until I exited the administration panel. I just can't handle it. Total wimp out. I used to know my way around a much older version of this software, but that looked all different and has mostly been forgotten in some inaccessible area of my brain. Rather than ban, why not just replace the personal details of a doxxing post with asterisks - but keep the essential content (such as it is) of the post there? Seems a fair compromise to me.

If I were a mod, I could go along with that, and give the new poster one more chance - although it seems inconceivable that in this day and age, and with knowledge of FTB and the Pit and all the talk against doc-dropping, that this was an innocent "whoopsie" on the part of the new poster.
