Somone on Twitter pointed out that Union Carbide only had to pay out 470m for killing 15,000ppl. I did a inflation check for 2022 dollars and it's 1.2b, so roughly equivalent.

Not sure if I'm interpreting this graphic correctly.

It looks to me like dark blue and light blue Left Side are districts projected to go Heavily or Lightly (D).

Nearly all of those initials are written-in blue lettering... which [if I'm correct] means the incumbent is already a (D).
So those are just break-even for the (D) team, not gains.

Still on the left side:
Only CA25 is red. CA25 was (D) Katie Hill's district, until her throuple/sexual-harassment scandal forced her to resign. Then an (R) won a special election. But, apparently, a (D) is about-to win it back.

NC14 is grey-- because it's a newly-drawn district. But 14 was created by D's & overcame court-challenges by R's... so maybe should be blue/ assuming the (D)s were smart when they drew-it. Also-- I think it partially-contains (R)Madison Cawthorn's old district, before he imploded & lost his primary.

OR6 is also grey because it's newly-drawn (by Dems). It has a 'Partisan Voting Index' of +4 toward the D's... so, again, it appears the D's are just breaking-even, not gaining-ground. 22 candidates ran in OR6's first-ever primaries, the most of any district.

Same image repeated, so it remains on screen with the text below:

Over on the right side of the graphic:
I count 5 blue-incumbent Districts... under the red bar labelled "Likely GOP" and 13 blue-incumbent Districts under the pink "Leaning GOP". So those will 'flip' & be actual R gains & actual D loses.

C08 is newly-drawn, so it's grey. It's like a nose in the middle of Colorado, between Denver & Ft. Collins. "The district has the largest number of Hispanic residents of any congressional district in Colorado, making up 38.5% of the adult population.[12] The 8th congressional district is viewed as competitive, with the Democratic Party holding a 3% lead in active registered voters and an average margin of victory of 1.3% between eight statewide elections held between 2016 and 2020.[10] Joe Biden won the area that is now the 8th district by 4.7% in the 2020 United States presidential election.[13]" Sounds like one of those places where the Latino vote don't wanna be Latinx.

MT1 is grey because Montana re-drew the borders of her 2 districts. But it should be Red because the state leans heavily (R). It's break-even for the R's, not a gain.

to be continued...

In the middle-- in the green box-- are the districts which are a "Toss Up" according to the title in the grey bar.
29 of those are (D) incumbents.
6 are (R) incumbents.

My first impression-- was that this is good for (R) and bad for (D). Because there are 29 "chances" for a (D) district to flip to R. But only 6 'chances' for an (R) district to turn D.

But maybe there's something I don't see-- some advantage to the D's having a short-list of 6 targets to focus on flipping?

(I thought maybe I saw it wrong... and the Dems got some advantage from focusing on a short-list of 6 targets... but, naw, that doesn't seem correct.)

I think the Ds have a lot of 'exposed' areas in the green box, at-risk of flipping.

Now here's a quirk of the graphic:

I drew the orange, turquoise & purple arrows to draw attention to the tipping-point... beyond-which one side 'wins' majority control.

Notice that (according to the upper horizontal line) the tipping-point is in the PINK zone.

In other words-- the odds say that the R's will win the House-- even-if R's merely win all the Pink & Red areas.. R's can afford to lose ALL the GREY 'toss-ups'.

See? The entire Grey zone is on the left-side of the fulcrum. The only 'toss-up' is How Badly the D's will lose.

The skinny dotted green line, which extends-up from that upper horizontal bar... (the 'see-saw' above the tipping-point)... is the tipping point.

But that doesn't match the layout of the entire page. If the entire page were 'centered' on the tipping-point, then the center of the page would be where the thick dotted line is.

Below is how fivethirtyeight draws the House race odds:

In their version... the black vertical center line represents the tipping-point to win majority.

I've added the yellow dotted line... to show where the 50/50 break-point is... reflecting the 40,000 times which five38 ran their simulation. Half the simulations fall on the left of the yellow, half on the right.

In other words, if my yellow line were the 'center' of the graphic... the viewer would intuit that the (R)s win... All The Times depicted on the left... plus all the dots to the right of the yellow line... are also (R) wins.

The Marvel Thanos Multiverses where the (D)'s win... are all off to the right side.

(i hope all those explosions I hear outside are fireworks)

On the happy side... today I discovered the Roper Knives "Pecos Linerlock" model, available from several online dealers for $16.25 USD.

It has the look of grandpa's friendly slipjoint, but it has 3 modern features: linerlock, one-hand-open thumbstud, & pocketclip.

Made in Communist China.

Gradually they are banning all the posters who still engage with the forum and aren't wannabe blue checkmark, Twitter troll tier sass merchants. It's pretty close to a monoculture now. Their schtick is it's still first term Obama, John Stewart is challenging power and they are still on the wave that the 4 horsemen surfed. Sentenced to 41 months in federal prison in November 2021.
3 1/2 years.
Until April 2026.
Convicted on one charge: "knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority"

He said police had initially blocked the crowd from entry, but had then specifically allowed them entry, at which point he entered.

Angeli enlisted in the United States Navy on September 26, 2005. After boot camp and training as a supply clerk, he was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk in March 2006. At some point, he refused to take an anthrax vaccine and was scheduled for dismissal from the Navy. On September 29, 2007, he was sent to a Transient Personnel Unit in Puget Sound in Washington state, and was processed out of the Navy on October 11. After two years and 15 days in uniform, his final rank was Storekeeper Seaman Apprentice.[19][20][21] His military awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon.[19]

Angeli self-published two books: Will & Power: Inside the Living Library (Volume 1), published in 2017 under the pen name Loan Wolf; and One Mind at a Time: A Deep State of Illusion, published in 2020 under the name Jacob Angeli.[18]

On January 8, Angeli was posted as a person of interest with the Washington DC Police.[27] Interviewed while wanted, Angeli said that he believed he did nothing wrong, telling NBC: "I walked through an open door, dude."[6] On January 8, Angeli told KPNX that he "wasn't worried" about possible charges.[27] Angeli had no criminal record in Arizona before taking part in the riot.[27]

Beginning in January 2021 through his guilty plea on September 2, Angeli was represented by St. Louis attorney Albert Watkins.[44][45] In a written statement, Watkins argued that Angeli had no part in the violence, did not hide his identity, was unarmed, not destructive, and followed the instructions of law enforcement officials in a respectful fashion; and that Angeli was carrying a megaphone so his voice could be heard. Additionally, he presented evidence Angeli had been diagnosed with schizotypal personality disorder while serving the Navy.[46]

On March 8, 2021, federal judge Royce Lamberth ruled that Angeli should not be released from jail, saying his lawyer's arguments were "so frivolous as to insult the Court's intelligence".

I was always pro-choice. Her Body Her Choice. But that slogan lost power when I realized Her Responsibility is missing from the end. Since then, I began to notice how atrociously feminists behave, and so now abortion is no longer 'my' issue. They can fight that battle without me. And it helps to pwn the libs.

A few days ago I listened to Dave Smith's reaction-- to Stacy Abrams being-asked when a 'life' begins. Abrams' answer was a bunch of incoherent gibberish. And Dave Smith said, "Abortion was always 'their' issue... the Democrats owned it... AS LONG AS they were the ones saying the Republicans' limits are Too Restrictive. But as soon as the question is reversed..." Asking, "OK Dems, when do YOU think a baby is too far-along to abort?" causes the Dems fall-apart like a baby in a blender. They just Aren't Ready for the hotseat. Same with guns-- the pro-gun people are versed in every nuance of the issue... and the anti-gun people have zero idea what the parameters of their position really-are.

Thats what I think of you f_tp... regarding the 'QAnon Shaman'.

That dude is already convicted & in prison. But your team is in the drivers' seat & they don't know when to stop the car & celebrate victory.
Today was the NINTH televised hearing on the nefarious QAnon Shaman's shamanic Qanon-ing.

The Inquisitors refuse to say 'enough is enough' and stop torturing the guy. Because YOUR bloodthirst isn't satisfied yet. You don't want them to show mercy, so they won't. And-- in so doing-- the Inquistors FUCK UP their own narrative:

The Inquisitors wanna say that Donald Trump was the evil mastermind of January 6, duping his own hapless followers. And the fucking QAnon Shaman would make the perfect whipping boy/star witness every STRUGGLE SESSION needs. Shaman says that he went to the Capitol because DONALD TRUMP TOLD HIM TO. He says DONALD TRUMP MISLED HIM. He says he begged Donald Trump for a pardon-- but Trump forsaken'd him... because DONALD TRUMP DOESN'T REALLY CARE ABOUT HIS SUPPORTERS. You've got the Head Vampire right in your gunsights!

But, nope, you'd rather pretend that his fucking CARTOON SPEAR was an actual threat... fight that dumb losing battle against an irrelevant pawn, rather than keep your eyes on the prize & win the 'war'. Your instinct is to fake injury & feign fear-- rather than admit the guy is zero threat. You reveal the dishonesty of the prosecution.

As for me-- as a teenage punk I had a romantic affinity for the rebellious antics of The Black Panthers & the Weather Underground. And I thought the big bad Republican Feds were un-American & un-Constitutional when they infiltrated the Lefty radicals via COINTELPRO... entraping them, prosecuting thru extra-legal means. My opinion of the lefty radicals has diminished considerably... but I still think the Feds crossed the line with COINTELPRO... and it was *justice* when those prosecutions were overturned... after COINTELPRO was exposed.

So I'm completely consistent when I look at RAY EPPS and other FED INSTIGATORS, the way the defendants were treated in courts & jail, and the the disgraceful "January 6 Committee"... and I conclude the Feds fucked-up their own case. Justice requires that the sham prosecution be overturned.

But not yet. For now, it helps to pwn the libs. Please, keep nail-gunning your own nutsack.

Did you watch that Young Turks link I posted, about Herschel Walker?

I look at that story & I think the fair and effective angle of attack... is to say:

Herschel Walker Bragged And Exaggerated About HIs 'Law Enforcement' Experience

Some voters would care, and some wouldn't care & you'd pick-up some small % of support. Maybe enough to win the election, maybe not.

But the Young Turks looked at the same video of Herschel Walker... & their headline was:

Herschel Walker has Traumatic Brain Injury from Playing Football
and
All Republicans Also Have Brain Damage Because Progressives Don't Like Them

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

FTP… you’re too partisan and blind to even understand any nuance with Jan 6. That fucking idiot shaman should not have entered the capitol building… but that is his only crime. He just walked around and yelled some stupid shit. This is a crime but what is the proper sentence… it is surely not 41 months. You are too fucking ideological to understand this point. You don’t even care to try to understand why this 41 month sentence is wrong. You are a sorry petty tyrant is your own head.

I think this right here is a huge issue on the Left. The conversation is always restricted to the next battle, but not what the final goal is. I think that ultimately this is because to get to all of their utopias there is always a step where a miracle is required to occur. It's often a version of Rousseau where contradictions between liberty, and equality are resolved by a new type of man appearing who only wants things that are compatible with utopia. It's a basic commitment to the idea that you can have your cake, and eat it, and not get fat.

When you are asking them about their vision of what abortion law should be, you are talking about how the world will be when all the body thetans are expelled, and there is no scarcity. The idea is that what prevents this world from manifesting is old social rules and superstitions that stop people doing what ever they want, and makes people want the wrong things. Once you have torn down society, a new natural Man will emerge and a new natural society. Their ideas aren't designed to work in this world, they are intended to bring about the next world. It's like asking the Heaven's Gate folks about their pensions, a miracle is going to occur and deal with that.

Last year the New Yorker published an extensive article about a german pedophile doctor who received govt funding for decades to place young boys in the foster care of known pedophiles. The justification was literally that 'sexual repression' led to Hitler, so orderly, efficient german child rape at scale is the solution.

I didn't think about that article much for a year, but in the last couple weeks it keeps coming to mind when I think about the mindset of woke midwit parents who try to manifest commie/sexual freaktopia in their own toddlers & young children.

Absolutely. This is one of the ways in which they are like religious zealots, they are motivated by the promise of another world. Generally criticism of them is as if they were trying to incrementally make the world better. Somewhere at the heart of this is Dr Frankenstein thinking he has the secret to creation, and the world is going to thank him when is New Man, walks amongst them.... but all they really know how to create is monsters. You then have the "better to rule in hell, than serve in heaven" idea, that it would be better to live in a world of rationally man-created monsters than accept that creating a New Man is beyond us.

The German you mention isn't exactly unique. You've got György Lukács in early 20th century Hungary as another famous example. I think similar stuff keeps coming up like this, because these people are just taking to their logical conclusion a bunch of ideas that have been baked into the culture since the 18th century, at least.

That's inevitable because life began around 3.8 billion years ago, but that isn't the question people want answered in the abortion discussion.
The real question is "at what stage do we treat human life as sacred." We don't seriously think that every sperm and egg are sacred, but they are alive and every human passes through the stage of being a sperm and an egg. We are all pretty sure that babies are sacred. The time between these stages where sacredness gets infused is not a scientific question, but a religious one. Some people like to pretend there is some default non-religious answer, but there plainly isn't.

I've watched a few philosophy talks lately where progressive philosophers claim to ground ethics in rationality. I haven't got a handle on how these smart people could find this remotely convincing. There is always a point where they just seem to smuggle in their own moral assumptions as "obvious" and outside the need for rational justification, while at the same time claiming to be grounding morality in reason.

Reminds me of a hypothetical debate:

:angry-devil: "No, because the pregnant person might be a 10-year old girl raped by her father... and her health or life is threatened by medical complications... and the severely deformed fetus has no brain or pulse ...and and and"

:angelic-sunshine: "See?-- I asked about a typical pregnancy-- but you succumbed to the irresistible urge to invent all these atypical circumstances, to justify the abortion. And pregnant women & abortionists would also find claiming false circumstances irresistible, if you offer them 'exceptions' to exploit."

Add to the commentator's list of 'slippery slope' examples-- the Canadian veteran who called a hotline to ask for PTSD help-- who was offered assisted suicide. I share the initial outrage at that occurring. But then-- I also wonder-- what-exactly is wrong about it? If assisted suicide is considered a legit option... then what's wrong with offering it on the menu? https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-e ... -1.6560136

Depends on what you mean by 'sacred' or 'religious'.

You could easy find the answer you are already looking to hear by asking the right politician / scientist / philosopher / imam / rabbi or priest.

You are a sorry petty tyrant is you own head
too partisan and blind to even understand nuance on Jan 6

A while ago you were calling for less nastiness. I have made an effort to not be nasty to people that aren't being obnoxious to me whether I agreed with them or not.
I remember when you threatened to stab me if you saw me coming down the street, repeatedly called me chicom dupe, and spammed over and over about telling me and others to suck your asshole. I guess you thought that was really funny so it was OK, which is sort indicative of how badly you lack self awareness.
Now you think it is fine to lash out with ad homs and insults without asking my reasons fo supporting the jail sentence saying "I don't even try to understand" . You don't know what I know about the matter, you are just arrogant enough to think you are right and need to agree with your side. That is the kind of thinking that stupid people do when they think they are smart.
I'm not going to waste my time by going in to detail why I believe that asshole deserved his sentence, I'll just point out one thing he did to piss off the judge.
Qanon moron, during his trial, conducted an interview to try and whip up sympathy where he said he didn't enter the building until the police let him in.. The next day the judge reviewed video that showed this was a lie. To this day people keep repeated the claim as if true and the open minded smart people like you believe it while special idiot blind partisans like me believe the evidence as given in court, which you seem to be blissfully unaware of.

By the way John, as you apparently are blissfully unaware of went on at the trial because you got your info from Fox News or some other right wing hivemind that tells the things that smart people like you want to hear. not like the facts of the case here is a view of the convictions in the case.
Watkins seemed brimming with anger about Trump’s behavior, saying he thought that Trump had a duty to “take care of a lot of the jackasses that you f---ed up because of Jan. 6.”

“There are a lot of people on Jan. 6 who were dramatically impacted by the president,” the defense lawyer added.

Nonbinding federal sentencing guidelines called for between 41 and 51 months in prison for Chansley on the felony obstruction count he pleaded guilty to.

Watkins asked in a written pleading that Chansley receive a sentence “significantly below” that range, but prosecutors urged Lamberth to impose a sentence at the top end of that range, 51 months. They rejected arguments that he was a “peaceful” participant in the Jan. 6 mob.

“If the defendant had been peaceful on that day, Your Honor, we would not be here,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly Paschall said.

Capitol police relive horror at first Jan. 6 hearing, in 180 seconds

Paschall said Chansley had spent months whipping up followers into a frenzy over false claims of voter fraud, describing his efforts as “a call to battle.” Then, she said, Chansley stormed past police and onto the Senate dais, where Pence stood just moments before and wrote a note that read “It’s only a matter of time. Justice is coming.”

The prosecutor said Chansley’s statements were not mere bluster because they were delivered amid the riot and with Pence and others still in danger.

“He’s feet away from the object of his contempt,” Paschall said. “This note was not peaceful. This note is a threat.”

Watkins indicated that Chansley had also been cooperating with the government since his incarceration. He has sat for multiple debriefings, Watkins noted, and is willing to offer further help.

The obstruction charge that Chansley pleaded guilty to and that other Capitol riot defendants are challenging in court carries a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison. Chansley said that for a period after his arrest he was distraught because he thought he was certain to receive the maximum.

So ftp - I guess you think the 41 months is appropriate for a kook who got into the capitol. I guess you can live with that. I disagree with you. He was not violent and was part of a mob. He was foolish when he pled guilty. Usually people like this are not prosecuted when riots occur in other contexts. I think you are obsessed with this.

No worries for you. Your side is winning the middle voter in my opinion. Most people think Jan 6 was and armed insurrection... even though no one was armed. Whatever. I guess you also think this is true.

I never said I would stab you. I don't know who said that to you but it wasn't me.

I did fuck with you about sucking my ass... and just like any over-sensitive dood... it got you really upset. Haha.

This one 18 U.S. Code § 1505 - Obstruction of proceedings before departments, agencies, and committees seems relavent, but is only 5 years max.

This one 18 U.S. Code § 1512 - Tampering with a witness, victim, or an informant wikipedia had a link to for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obstructing_an_official_proceeding
but doesn't seem like it should apply.

Anyone know what Q-Shaman plead guilty for?
