There's a Swedish town named Gävle. Since 1966, it's been a tradition for them to erect a gigantic Yule Goat made of straw and wood scaffolding. It's huge and costs a lot of money. And apparently, some of the townspeople think it's a tradition to burn that fucking goat down. Sometimes the goat is burned so soon the town puts up a replacement. It's usually burnt down also. In 1971, the merchant sponsors tired of the futile expense and quit the goat business, so a local science club took up the duty. 15 years later the merchants got back into it, so since then there are TWO goats to burn.

For 26 years English bookmakers have taken bets on when the Gävle Goats will be destroyed.

The goats have been fireproofed. The goats have been protected by the Army. Neither prevented burning. Once, a mighty blizzard that drove guards indoors gave arsonists their window of opportunity. Another time, a goat was torched by a visitor from Cleveland Ohio who said he thought he was participating in a legal tradition.

I have a slightly different take on it.

The whole SJW/Tribalism thing ONLY works if the entirety of the problem (or at least a substantial amount of it) can realistically be fixed via "raising consciousness" I.E getting people to walk on eggshells. And that's assuming that they can convince a super-duper majority of people that they're right in the first place, which is highly unlikely. This is mainly due to the fact that most people IMO don't want to walk on eggshells as it's very uncomfortable. Note that actual SJWs rarely do this themselves. Which is why you see so much outright hypocrisy. "This SJW stuff is easy! Why do people dislike it so much?".

However, once you get to the point where you're looking to make any sort of systematic change, all that falls apart. Lying about facts/reality can result in bad policy/bad changes and can end up causing more harm than good. Coming up with the best solution requires the most accurate information possible.

A great example of this, I think is the "wage gap". Because it's portrayed as not equal pay for equal work, people automatically assume that the problem is direct sexism by employers and people who are making remuneration decisions, and as such virtually all of the legislation targets this aspect. However, what they're talking about is actually an earnings gap, and generally requires a completely different set of solutions. Everything from removing the social stigma against STEM to making more realistic expectations for employees (I.E. no 60 hour work weeks). But because of the bad information regarding this issue, there's very little discussion about the actual big problems. (Assuming that they are problems)

I can't tell you how many trails I have been on where there have been signs and warnings of things like a protected wildflower area with stern warnings to stay on the trails to protect the special habitat. Anyone who really loves nature will just do what they are asked.
