Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
It was an example of a costly operation. I'd be for coverage of ongoing birth control for men too, but condoms (for both men and women) are really cheap.Opyt wrote: You'll support a procedure that equates to PERMANENT birth control for men, but you want ongoing birth control available to women. Got it. In other words: "YOUR PENIS, YOUR PROBLEM!" "MY PUSSY, YOUR PROBLEM TOO!"; it's that rhetoric that makes me bristle. I'm sick of the "pussy pass" horseshit.
This is a bit of a strawman. Monogamous women need birth control too, as birth control for men, short of sterilization, is not fully reliable. Also, the people who need financial support for birth control the most are the ones least able to 'find a job that supports their choices'. If you're saying that couples should refrain from sex indefinitely or risk pregnancy if they cannot afford birth control, you're not being realistic. Fighting the biological urge for sex is always going to be a losing battle in the general population.Opyt wrote: If they want a bunch of fuck buddies, then it's their problem to pay for, and if they were at all responsible for their actions, they would understand there are risks involved. If they're in a committed relationship and both express a desire for not having kids, then chances are both sides are going to be sharing the responsibility of birth control, and I don't mean the guy going out and buying his own condoms. Chances are the guy and gal will find a way to make it work and pay for the gal's choice in birth control. And as odd as it sounds, there is some mileage in the "Find a job that DOES support your choices" argument Cruze mentioned earlier. Of course your mileage will vary.

I don't care about the appropriation of swear words but I do care about the cocking up of expressions, such as 'I couldn't care less' replaced by 'I could care less'. It drives me nuts. If you could care less it means you do care at least a bit, the opposite to what is intended. For all you verbally challenged morons here is a simple guide for you:

It's also a misrepresentation of my argument to say "monogamous women need birth control too". As monogamous women are likely to have a partner that would be willing to split the costs of the birth control. If the problem is the employers' health insurance, and you're not able to get a better job, chances are you could still use ACA to get insurance through the government. And chances are that if you're that low in the income bracket you probably qualify for the plans via government subsidized health care.ROBOKiTTY wrote:This is a bit of a strawman. The real problem is that people "think"; for want of a more accurate term, that employer provided health care is the only option for the low income bracket. :naughty:
So all this "what if they don't have enough money" shit is also tiresome. I've mentioned it in previous posts, but somehow it never comes through. Now you've got two links for it. Although they won't be of much "help" this year, as the enrollment period for this year ended on March 31st of 2014.

Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
Today, Queen Elizabeth is going to name the Queen Elizabeth class carrier Queen Elizabeth "HMS Queen Elizabeth" (officially). You'll notice I said "name", not "launch". This is because HMS Queen Elizabeth isn't going anywhere for at least two years, HMS Queen Elizabeth being not so much an aircraft carrier as an aircraft carrier shaped empty box. Still, it's a behind-schedule, over-budget empty box, so some some naval traditions are being upheld.
By 2016, HMS Queen Elizabeth will be ready to move - we are assured. It will move all the way from Rosyth Royal Dockyard to Portsmouth. It had better, because by then Rosyth Royal Dockyard might well be in a foreign independent country and would be a real embarrassment for the Royal Navy's biggest asset to be stuck there.
Even by 2016, HMS Queen Elizabeth is going to be an aircraft carrier with no aircraft to carry. Well, there'll be helicopters, but if the Royal Navy had wanted a helicopter carrier, it could have had one for much less. In fact it could have just hung on to HMS Illustrious due to be de-commissioned this year.
Certainly, HMS Queen Elizabeth isn't going to have any fixed wing aircraft until 2020. The First Sea Lord says 2018, but frankly, what does he know? The aircraft in question will be F-35Bs, which as we know wont work whenever they show up. It seems even more of a pity then that the Fleet Air Arm retired it's tried and tested (and refurbished) Sea Harriers back in 2006. Even then, it wasn't expected for the F-35B to be ready before 2012, so retiring the Sea Harriers early was controversial at the time.
As of today, the Royal Navy's initial order for 14 F-£35Bs is estimated to cost £2.5 billion. However, HMS Queen Elizabeth is theoretically capable of carrying 24 F-35Bs - plus various other aircraft. That would be about £4.3 billion worth of aircraft - assuming the price of the F-35B doesn't go up any more (hah!). HMS Queen Elizabeth herself, is scheduled to cost a mere £6 billion. So it's not out the question that by 2020, the carrier will cost less than her aircraft.
The First Sea Lord is of the opinion that we need two Queen Elizabeth class carriers. In fact, I'd question whether you can have a Queen Elizabeth class if you only build one of them. We need two - apparently - so that if the politicians who are flinching at the price of one carrier today decide we need to use one in a hurry later, we'll always have one available. What we'd use it for remains to be explained. Even now, the Royal Navy is explaining that in addition to "war fighting" HMS Queen Elizabeth will be available for duties like disaster relief. I can't help thinking that if the Royal Navy wants to have a ship suitable for disaster relief, they could get one a lot cheaper than an aircraft carrier. In fact, since HMS Illustrious is going to be "preserved for the nation" after de-commissioning, they could use that.
Anyway, the First Sea Lord is shit out of luck and should be thankful he's even getting one white elephant. If said elephant has a full compliment of fully functional F-35Bs, even as late as 2020, he'll be halfway to sainthood with a bona fide miracle to his name.

This is one thing about mental illness that SJWers are just going to have to accept. Often the actions of a sufferer are a symptom of illness. You can't make a person culpable unless you can prove negligence on their part in not controlling their symptoms. That's just the way it goes. Everything else comes under the label of "shit happens." Making a person responsible for everything they do while having a psychotic episode, provided they have done everything in their power to prevent it, is sadistic.

The only way you can be absolved is if you repent, get down on your knees and let feminism into your soul, and then feminism will lead your life and make it better than you ever could on your own. You gots to cry out for feminism, and feminism, through the grace and spirit of Dworkin, will cleanse your soul and also your Twitter feed.
Just ask the newly reconsecrated Bora Zikovic, who feminism has welcomed back with open arms after his tearful (fearful) apology and abject self-debasement.
Boy, I tell ya son, I was in the depths of sin and hell. I was writing harassing emails disagreeing with feminists online, and brushing up against women's legs on crowded buses, and I even looked at a trans humyn who identified as a man and referred to xim as "dude" without stopping to ask for enthusiastic pronoun consent. That's how far gone I was down the path of the sinner. But one day, Big Red came to me. I was lying in the gutter outside of the First International Men's Rights Conference, and typing a comment to Anita Sarkeesian, where I dissected her videos and told her her opinions were wrong. Well, Big Red didn't let be wallow in my own sin like that. She slapped my face with her megaphone of feminist truth, pulled a nearby fire alarm and she told me what a shitlord I had been all my life. I had been born into shitlord status ever since Adam tricked Eve into picking that apple and forced her to feed it to him like the patriarchal pig he was. Right before plying her with a bottomless wine glass and switch-raping her. All my male relatives, they were all shitlords too, having never confessed in their hearts and received the goodness and glory of Dworkin's blessing and forgiveness.
Well, I knelt right down and cried, and I prayed to Dworkin, Peezus Christ and the holy virgin, Watson herself, and I stepped up, renewed. I realized that arguing with women was pointless, because feminists are always right and the only reason I ever disagreed with them was because I secretly, in my heart, wanted to rape and murder them all. That was my sinful shitlord pig male nature, but feminism freed me from all shitlord status and set my feet back on the path of righteousness. Today I walk the true path, the narrow path. I agree with all the women, and they always tell me what a good man and good feminist ally I am. I know that some day, Dworkin will return and I'll be caught up with her into heaven, with her and all the feminist hosts, and then I will stand with the feminist ally men in the ranks of the uncastrated, and forever will I serve and sing her praises.

Oh look another SJW public crucifiction. I would have more sympathy with Emily Partridge if she went to the police. But hey why fuck with that when you can go straight to the court of public opinion.
Uh, yes it does. If that guy's actions were that fucked up due to acute psychosis from a severe bipolar incident, it does both.

Does it explain what this Skyler bloke did to her? Going off previous SJW definitions of what constitutes an assault he probably just Tweeted some facts at her.

She's right. British profanity is miles better than american.
When Paul Hogan talked about "throwing another shrimp on the barbie" for a US commercial, he was branded a traitor for life in Australia. (Aussies eat prawns, not shrimp.) Liz Hurley seems to have got away with this. Then again, Brits aren't half as touchy as the Aussies and Liz Hurley is practically invisible.
Re: Nerds. Nerds EVERYWHERE...
I think we might be confusing each other. I wasn't trying to insult you. I was trying to provide an example you could relate to where placing punctuation inside quotes, can lead to erroneous and confusing situations. Any time I type up instructions for commands to be made, or code used, superfluous punctuation inside the quotes may lead the reader to include, or even exclude very precise characters that either have to be there or not have to be there.Phil_Giordana_FCD wrote:My bad, that was actually a serious question. When I see something in quotes, it's in quotes, punctuation included. Good idea, since if I quoted you, and if I wanted to quote your full sentences, I'd need periods both inside the quotes (to quote your entire sentence) and outside (to finish my sentence). It would look like this: "I had heard before of Japanese companies selling warm-up knickers to reduce fertility.". :DPhil_Giordana_FCD wrote:I think there's a correlation between sperm mobility and temperature. It's a biological reality that women get pregnant from having semen delivered into them. It's also the case that pregnancy affects women directly prior to birth, so they naturally have a greater interest in managing it. This naturally makes it more difficult and more important for women to avoid pregnancy without preventing semen from being deposited in them. On the other hand, for men, they can use condoms (so cheap they give them out freely), pull out, or take a long hot bath beforehand. So why is it a problem for society to help women out?
Don't quote me on this.

I once wrote a 100+ page document doing exactly that. The editor wanted to kill me. Why? The Hobby Lobby religious exemption can o' worms reminds of the minor fuss some years ago, when the law in England & Wales was changed to allow gay couples to adopt more easily. It sort of went like this:
Church of England: Oh noes, this means we'll have to close all our adoption agencies!
British Public: Why?
CofE: Well, if we have to obey the law like all other agencies, we'll have to let children be adopted by gay couples.
BP: Well, placing children with adoptive parents is what the agencies are for, so the more the merrier right?
CofE: No, you see, in Leviticus it says god hates queers, so we couldn't let them adopt any of the children on our books.
BP: Are you saying you hate gay people?
CofE: Oh no no no. We're the comfy old CofE. We don't hate anybody. But, well, god, religious principle er...
BP: The longer kids spend in care, the worse they do in education and employment. The more likely they are to become drug users and criminals. Are you saying you'd rather condemn them to that, than place them with gay parents?
CofE: Well er umm...
BP: Anyway, it's the law of the land now. You don't get a religious exemption. Think of the slippery slope that would put us on with the fucking Muslims. It's bad enough there's still bishops in the House of Lords.
CofE: Then we'll just have to close all our adoption agencies.
BP: Sounds like the kids will be better off without you. Fuck off.

Any other way would not be accurate. Editors suck.Hunt wrote:I once wrote a 100+ page document doing exactly that. The editor wanted to kill me. Why? Years ago, while living at a co-op, I was on some committee for a newsletter. A resident gave me her written copy of a column she wanted to put in it. It was totally fine as it was, well written etc. I handed it over to the editor, and a few days later she showed me what she'd done with it. She had erased complete sentences and paragraphs, and replaced them with her own paraphrasings. I was horrified but had no say in it. I ended up privately calling up the writer and told her that what was going to appear in the newsletter under her name, was not what she actually wrote, and that I didn't think they should have done that. She wasn't too upset, but I was. Couldn't believe that an editor would do more than just fixing spelling and grammar. It was a complete rewrite and not at all recognizable as the writer's original.

Yes, always remember Brits, we beat your ass, and we'll do it again by golly, if you get too uppity. That time you burned down the White House, well...you just caught us drunk and vomiting with our pants around our ankles. You can bet it won't happen again.

it might be your own personal problem, then. When I see quotes, I tend to separate them from the rest of a paragraph. Oh, I don't know, I guess in the end both work for me.

Coloring paper dolls is sciencing?? OK. Maybe a better strategy would be to stay in your lab long enough to host some local middle school or high school students, who could participate in actual experiments. That's what I do, but what do I know?

Gotta love California though. Liberal, tolerant California:
Three busloads of immigrant children — many who were fled gang violence in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras — met a human blockade on Tuesday afternoon in California. Many were accompanied by parents.
In downtown Murrieta, about 70 miles north of San Diego, hundreds of protesters shut off access to a nearby Border Patrol station in Riverside County, waving American flags, shouting “go home†and holding signs that read “stop illegal immigration†and “illegals out.â€
Some 140 immigrant children and families had been flown from crowded facilities in Texas and were set to be transported to other Border Patrol stations.

Times like these, I'm glad I'm over on the east coast sharing a border with Canada instead of out west sharing a border with Mexico. None of that "Mexicans go home!" rhetoric, though it was a bit of a racist running gag in high school.
