I only come here because I think it's cool how everyone works the word 'cunt' into every other sentence. My early impressions are that the 'Pit is part software-engineers'-beer-and-pizza-party, complete with inside jokes I'll never get / part rebecca-watson-stalkers'-society / part esoteric-science-...

1) I don't even think the use of "nigger" is an indicator of racism per se;

2) The most anyone can do is say, 'please don't use that word around me';

3) The PC Thought Police who try to outright ban certain words can go fuck themselves.

Here in Nice we have Pissalat. A remnant of our Roman "colonialists", it seems. Bloody delicious in Pissaladière. My cooking* is mostly mediterranean, with a lot of provençal influence. I make a mean pissaladière. Many people can't detect that anchovies were involved! (* Which, according to the ...

A gem from Shakesville, McEwan claims fish sauce was othered in Gwyneth Paltrow's latest cookbook. Gwyneth is such a sauceist! She needs to check her western cuisine privilege. Fish sauce is essential to a good pad thai, but it does reek something awful -- unlike Melissa McEwan, who is not required...

It's pointless to endorse or oppose The Patriarchy when its very existence has yet to be shown. Sure, there exist organizations and social & leadership structures with patriarchal tendencies, but the concept of an all-pervasive The Patriarchy, as posited by gender feminists, must be rejected as unfa...

rayshul, There's actually less "Jesus bio" in the apocrypha. The gospels were first written in Greek, by (it's surmised) hellenized Jews outside of Judea. Mythical vs. Historical Jesus

I was raised Catholic and underwent a decade of Sunday School. As an apostate adult, I've become intrigued with the search for an historical Jesus, and the often rancorous debate between historicists and mythicists. Stretchycheese's list pretty much sums it up. I'd clashed with radfem/gen-fems in the past in political discussions, and what frustrates me the most is: 1) their insistence that everyone accept, a priori, their neologisms & po-mo constructs; and 2) their refusal to allow open discourse. I elaborate ...
