Re: Periodic Table of Swearing
There is a new thread on JREF about the latest twist in the thunderf00t vs FtB saga. That place always cheers me up when the baboons get me down!

Surly Amy in an interesting short podcast: http://bit.ly/NAiA8w ... I wasn't aware this was a problem or actually happened at TAM or at...

Schrödinger's X
Somewhat OT, but it seems the "Schrödinger's X" meme is taking on a life of its own. A commenter named "Kate" on the Daily WTF (a collection of humorous IT related stories) has invoked his name to rebuke someone who wasn't nice to a support tech. The guy in the last story was pretty rude. The suppo...

I just have to say, Dillahunty has really gone de profundis in recent weeks. A smart, clever guy when it comes to dealing with religious arguments, but a complete arsehole when dealing with Baboons and their vapid behaviour. Dillahunty's relapse into dogmatism is, for me, one of the most disappoint...

Re: Fincke's war on Swearing
Nope, as we all know, TF00t was kicked out for daring to have a contrary opinion, and for unabashedly calling out PZ and the Skepchicks. I believe PZ called it a "lack of collegiality". From the cesspit of lies : Collegiality is the relationship between colleagues. Colleagues are those explicitly u...

Seriously; if Thunerf00t was booted for poor writing (yeah, right), why is this pseudo-intellectual given air time? There is never any substance to her writings - and that's when she manages to string a coherant sentence together. Actually, I'll retract that. There is often little or no substance t...

It seems Fincke has given Ms Reed a well-deserved smack-down: Dan, reading through these comments, you have pretty epically dropped the ball here. You are NOT in the position to be dictating whether or not targeted insults are or not “as bad†as slurs. And you SERIOUSLY need to step back, and ma...

... From a gene's perspective, an organism is damaged only if it can't pass on it's genes. Not true. Take the worker cast of hymenoptera, for example. E.g.: Worker bees. I think the JREF forum has a 10 minute editing time limit. It also has a little "Edit reason" box which allows you to attach a note explaining why you edited - is this an option on pbpBB? This has worked well on JREF. If you really want to edit a post after the 10 minute limit, you can PM a mod and ...

We need to show that this is a safe space. I suggest we go with "porcupine free zone" I like this one, too. Plus, less chance of mis-interpretation by fence sitters than the Laden reference, which may be lost on some. OT: Is there chance of setting up an auto-mod to translate "porcupine" to somethi...

Hey, if we're going to quote invective, quote their invective!

If there is to be any serious attempt to back-off on the invective (and I'm not even sure that's why we're here... I seem to be the only one who thinks so in John Greg's poll, so far), perhaps it's not such a good idea to have a CK reference in the description of the "Take it outside" forum. I don't...
