TFA was the first Star Wars film in a decade. Of course it's going to outperform TLJ. Star Wars hype peaked already. Agreed, some drop off is expected. But if the 50% dropoff continues, that would be much larger than expected. We'll get some visibility with this weekend's figures, although Sunday p...

The new Star Wars is as good as they say. Re: In 2017 Idiocracy is a Documentary
I don't know if Michigan is different than the rest of the country but schools are funded through property taxes, and schools in poor neighborhoods get fuck-all because of that. The state of Vermont is the only exception that I know of. Twenty some years ago they voted in a more egalitarian system ...

And yet, nearly without exception, when a government service is contracted out, costs go down dramatically. Turns out the shareholders and yacht are peanuts compared to having some cost discipline and telling public sector unions to go screw. You think private entities don't behave differently when...

What's wrong with private prisons? There are no more problems with private prisons than public ones as far as I can see. It's a silly idea even on paper. The term 'marriage' would be completely privatized. This ...

Kamala Harris has a bad track on due process. https://twitter.com/Popehat/status/906388629320110081 Through her career, Harris has been a bit of a triangulator, at least by California standards. Unlike Bill Clinton, whose triangulation made him a broad spectrum moderate, Harris' triangulation has m...

Re: In 2017 Idiocracy is a Documentary
Of these three points one is relatively trivial (if two contracts give you the same kinds of rights, does it really matter how you call them?), but a change in name, from "marriage" to "civil unions/partnerships" shows that many don't see it as such. The matter here is social, though, not legal. Wh...
